Diesel vs gas

i put in my AVERAGE on my truck which is 15 - i get 18plus on hwy - i get 16plus running around locally and 12 pulling loads at the least if i mind my foot - the last F250 gasser i had got 12.5 on hwy, 10 running around and 6 to 7 towing the same things i am towing with my diesel and those weights/mileages.

My diesel does not use def - so calculated that at .0000001 and 10K miles since you have to put in something

so i plugged in 15 for the diesel at 3.00/gal and the gasser at 10 and 2.65/gal which is about where we are right now - my engine was 5K extra at purchase and i currently have 285K on my truck - with those numbers its at 77K to break even, i rounded up to 80K so pretty much around 3.5 times give or take on my situation

We are not talking about history . Plug in 2018 numbers .

My buddy is a farmer and burns 400 gallons of fuel a day when theyæ±*e running their equipment. Adding in an extra 200-300 gallons it was gas is a substantial difference. When I mow grass for a day it cost me $11 on the grasshopper diesel or about double that for the gas Dixie chopper. Thatç—´ a pretty insignificant expense compared to the total income of the day. If I was mowing 6 days a week the diesel mower that cost twice as much upfront might pay off. Mowing 1 day or less a week thereç—´ no chance.

Another person that can not tell the difference between light, medium and HD service . No details on the era of the lawn equipment either. Try a port injected or direct injected gasser vs the tier IV diesel .

There痴 a big difference in duty cycle. The Porsche will melt pretty soon. The Kubota could make the rated power oil change to the next oil change assuming fuel was continuous.

Except that the vast majority of small tractors spend the vast majority of their time NOT at rated power.

all of my statistics are accurate and truthful...........my engine is HEUI with a Fuel Injection Control Module the notorious 6.0 Navistar so its not old technology - once you fix the poorly engineered problem they are amazing engines. To break even at 60K im guessing a cummins in an older dodge OR the person didn't buy it new and didn't add on the extra cost of the engine package = if I took that out of mine it would drop significantly

You appear unwilling or unable to tell the difference between light , medium and heavy duty duty cycles as they relate to equipment purchased new in 2018.
You also failed to pickup on the fact that manufactures cater to the largest markets where diesel is cheaper per litre and emissions equipment is lenient.
Americans and Western Europeans have the deep pockets to pay for the add on emissions equipment . Price diesel and gasoline the same per gallon around the world , enforce IV emissions world wide and the light-medium duty diesel market would turn to gasoline .

I'm afraid it's you that fails to tell the difference. But hey, each to their own. :)

The world market where diesel fuel is 2/3 to 3/4 of gasoline . These countries which are the majority of sales . The US are rich suckers and pay for the add on emission equipment.

I don't understand this response? My question was why the small/medium duty diesel market has grown? And I'm not talking about foreign countries. I'm talking about your neighborhood. :)

So, we are supposed to make up numbers using engines we don't own? Wish we had established that rule in the beginning of this discussion. All this time I thought we were supposed to be using real experience. I didn't know we were supposed to dream up something. Sorry I didn't understand the "game" we were playing. :(

My truck is a power stroke bought used. Added $3,500 for diesel option over largest gasser. If that number is misleading I apologize. I'll research and adjust if needed. Don't think I missed it by much.

id say that is probably about right as I put in more on the diesel price of what mine cost me when I bought it new - but yes if I had to put down 10K for the cost of the diesel option on most trucks I could buy a LOT of fuel before I paid for the gasser - I really don't care I was just doing it for kicks to see since someone brought it up lol - others seem to be more concerned I enjoy the banter and debate, and you can accuse me of taking both sides and playing devils advocate - there are always 2 sides and no one is necessarily wrong unless they are not being truthful
