difference in roller pumps

someone give me a learnin lesson on roller pumps. Been looking on internet and see there are many. I wonder what is the difference between 4,6, or 8 roller pumps? The more the better? Interested in trying to "fix up" my late FIL sprayer. Found his old roller pump under the shed. Its a continental belton and probably been sittin there for years. Have not taken it apart for a curious look yet. Some day might want to spray 10-15 acres for goatweed. What would you recommend?

Without looking at it I would venture to say take it apart clean it up and make sure the surfaces are smooth with some sandcloth. Put it back together and give it a try. Nothing ventured nothing gained.


Larger pumps have a higher flow rate at high pressures, needed for larger spray rigs with lots of spray tips. Rollers are replaceable too, and if you see the old ones are worn you can put new ones in during the rebuild.

its not a boom sprayer just one nozzle at the back, so if i have to buy one, then a four roller pump would do fine?

You should investigate the flow rate and pressure needed for the nozzle and make sure you select a pump that meets or slightly exceeds this criteria.

What jenkinsph said. The number of rollers does not make much difference - size the pump/sprayer by pressure and flow rate. If you know what you're going to be spraying, you can get the pump housing and gaskets to match the chemicals. Some are corrosive, some are not so much. Also keep in mind that a roller pump is a positive displacement pump.

well dont know about pressure and flow rate but can tell ya i would be spraying amine or something with 2-4d to kill goatweed. i sprayed some out of one of those sprayers for atv's but that takes too long. thanks for the responses
