Heres a few pics of a log skidder type grapple I recently finished. I have some red pine plantations that need to be thinned this winter and hope to make good use of it. Fire away with questions or comments. I did a few preliminary pulls with it before painting, but dont have any good pics, Ill try to get some action pics if I think of it.

Looks awsome!! I broke down and bought the wallenstein model and don't know how I ever lived without it. Great build and hope it serves you well.

That looks real good.

Looks really good
Don't tease us, Give us some details
I see you have a swing cylinder can you also rotate it ?
How much does it weigh and how big a log can you drop it down on ?
Are you running a fixed or hydraulic top link ? (From the picture it looks fixed maybe)
Get some action pictures

Did you build the grapple also? Real nice! All you need now is a winch tucked into it and you would have my dream setup. Tell us some details and get that camera back out!
Thanks for showing.

Yes it swings from side to side hydraulicaly (sp?), it does rotate but only if you were pulling a log around corner, then returns to center, via spring. Spring is under the box up on top.
Havent calculated the weight yet, I dont have a scale but have a link to a weight calculator so I will try to get to that.
Point to point opening is 39", widest inside spread is 52".
I'm using an "adjustable" fixed top link. Not sure if there would be an advantage to a hydraulic for this or not. Other than a reason to buy one.:)

THANKS for all the compliments!! I will get some more pics, I needed 3 hydraulic circuits, 1 for the clam, 1 for the swing, and 1 for the front grapple. which I want to be able to use for piling pulp. My tractor only has 2 rear remotes so I had too put in a selector valve, so with the pull of the valve I can switch from the swing circuit to the front grapple. I also put in a couple of needle valves to slow things down a bit. I will shoot some pics of the hyd. tommorrow and post.

Well it looks like your talented enough to (next winter) make a hyd. tank out of that boom and add a pto pump with a 3 valve bank that you could reach from the seat to run the whole rear grapple and (soon) winch!

That's gorgeous!

Interesting idea, but after some quick and rough calculations it would hold less than 10 so might not be worth it.

Great job Looks Like factory built

I have been gathering info on and off this year ,on building a smaller version of the grapples I see on the internet.. I actually met with my welder friend yesterday. This is insperation. I will have somthing to show before spring. Mine will be much smaller though. Just for say 16 inch butt and down is all i need. Do you know how many pounds of pressure you have on the log grapple cylinder?

That looks great, very impressive! What is the thickness of the steel used? Can you please add some photos of your grapple? Thanks, Stanley

Very impressive!!!!!!

I'm looking forward for some pics of it in action. Do you have any steering problems or need for more weight up front? How about a video on youtube?

Thanks for sharing,
Eddie
