Very professional. I wish I had the patience to do wood mockups like you did; my stuff would not look as good as yours, but it would look (and work) a lot better than it does.

Send us some pictures of it in action.

Great job Looks Like factory built

I have been gathering info on and off this year ,on building a smaller version of the grapples I see on the internet.. I actually met with my welder friend yesterday. This is insperation. I will have somthing to show before spring. Mine will be much smaller though. Just for say 16 inch butt and down is all i need. Do you know how many pounds of pressure you have on the log grapple cylinder?

Thanks, I don't know what the pressure would be. Its a 2 1/2" bore, 3000psi welded cylinder. What would I do to check the pressure?. I would highly reccomend the boom swings side to side if your building one. Alot of the ones I seen didn't and after using for a few hours yesterday it came in very handy.

That looks great, very impressive! What is the thickness of the steel used? Can you please add some photos of your grapple? Thanks, Stanley

I used 3/8" for most of it. The boom is 1/4" Heres a couple shots of the grapple. I posted some on here last year. I dont know enough about computer stuff to put a link to it, but I guess if you search my post it should work.

I figure wood is a lot cheaper than steel, and easier to work with!
Im a paramedic by proffesion, a woodworker by heart, and a wannabe fabricator on the side pictures coming.

guess that depends on what you call copying. Did I look at pictures of others yes, did I have plans, drawings, or schematics no.:confused3:

Thanks again everyone. It doesn't have a rotator motor, those are very spendy! what it doe have is a spring to return it to a position perpindicular to boom. Was out in plantation with it this weekend, but got busy and forgot to take pics. Will try to get more posted later.

Sharp eye!! It was a quick fix to cover up a sharp edge the the hose was rubbing against, and like those kinda of things I just never got around to fancying it up;)

He was talking about sealing the boom and making it into a resevior for hydraulic oil but it would only hold 10 gallons so not worth it.
