I have a late 90s model PJ gooseneck trailer with tandem 7000 lb torsion axles. I believe these are dexter axles. One is bent and needs to be replaced. The most reputable axle company around has suggested to replace it with a flexi ride. Problem is they do not make one that matches my measurements and the new one will be 3" wider than my current axle. Is this a good idea or not?

The rubber torsion strings dont go the entire width, only the outer foot and a half. Its safe to cut and weld them in the middle. We did it all the time when i was in the business, when a customer wanted a used axle as a replacement. Just align them with a ruler and weld crosswise to cancel out the welds pulling.
