Digging holes with a Front End Loader

Scoops really aren't for digging as their main function. There more for moving loose materials usually that is piled. Don't see them as often anymore since FELs are common on small tractors.

Thanks for the compliment, Scott, and actually, Blake, that's probably the best $190 a guy could spend on a 2wd tractor, but not for digging.

Mosey, You will never regret getting a FEL for your tractor. What I would do is after you get the FEL spend the money that you would have to spend on renting a mini-excavator on a big dumpster. Then use the FEL to load the bricks/blocks into the dumpster. It probably would cost you less and you are not messing up your beautiful property.

How big are the augers for your PHD?
If u had a 24" or so use it.
Drill lots of holes and put the rocks in them.
Seriously, have any neighbors that need
fill see if they would take them.

I dug a 4ft deep hole for a dry well using my JD 4200 FEL. Encountered 2 or 3 large rocks, but was able to dislodge them and get them in the bucket (partially by hand) to get rid of them. Using bucket in vertical down position and then curling up, you can dig quite a bit deeper than front wheels. This was a bucket finesse project, as opposed to charging at the dirt to load the bucket. I was about to dig the hole by hand, and thought I'd try the JD for the fun of it. Glad I did, and I was amazed what it can do. PS, I'm new to tractoring. Ken

Spencer - Thanks for the idea. It would be better to just get rid of them! I think the main thing that the FEL can do that a rear scoop can't is lift things up high, so I could use the FEL to load the stuff up and get rid of it. What do I look for in the yellow pages for one of those dumpters? I've seen them, but never used one.

About my post, when I mentioned what I did about the scoop, I didn't mean to sound like I was being disrespectful. Sorry, I was just being sarcastic. :)

Around here (Californy) it's the same company that picks up our trash and recycle every week. They have a selection of dumpster sizes and some restrictions on how much dirt/rocks/concrete you can put in one. Seems they want to be sure they can pick it up again when it's time to come and get it. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Mosey, I think you will find most of them listed under 'Rubbish' in the yellow pages. Just look around your area and see who's dumpsters seem to be the most popular. They are probably the most popular because of price. Like Harv said, make sure you tell them what type of materials you will be putting in there.
