Haha! I actually got the pressure washer out on sunday... I figured that it might be easier to do the 50 hour service when the tractor is clean(er)... And, now it doesn't smell as bad... ;)

Talked with a farmer neighbor today, and they are interested in the manure... Just when I want to start moving more out, the rain is coming again... This spring is wack!

Looks like it's going to be a fun job, just don't get off the tractor.

I thought I'd bring this thread back from the dead now that I'm 90% done with cleaning the barn. I got rid of all the manure (gave it to the farmer down the road) but kept a little bit for my garden. The difference of room is amazing! I can not believe how much bigger my barn looks now with all the poo out! It took a long time (pretty much the whole summer) but at least it's done. I was happy to see that the posts were not it that bad of shape. :) Here are some pictures to look at.

In these next few pictures, you'll see 3/4's of the total amount of poo. Needless to say, it was quite the POO mountain!

VERY stinky. I forget how many times old manure spreader came over. I must have loaded it about 60 or 70 times. It took around 12 hours to get rid of the manure, drive down to the bean fields and spread, then come back, load, etc. I was glad that the main bean field was only 1/4 mile or so away! :D And wouldn't you know it, on the last load, the manure spreader broke... looks like we worked it too hard! If I did not have good ole TC34DA, it would have been nearly impossible (if not impossible) to do this any other way!

The craZy chicken like to play under the New Holland :)

Thanks for looking at all this crap, haha...

That looks great! Nice job and probably learned quite a lot of tractoring skills in the process.

It looks like the lean-to is newer than the barn proper, based on the red paint on the outside of the barn inside the lean-to. Any idea of when it was put on there? The posts look like telephone poles, which would be great if they were. Is that floor concrete, or just packed dirt. If it's dirt, you did an amazing job not gouging it up with the loader. If it's concrete you have an even better space to work with now.

Again, great job, looks fantastic!

Thank you for the kind words. You're right, I did learn alot about tractoring, moving around and what not. The major thing was just watching out for smahing into things and keeping the revs up when lifiting the packed manure. It was crazy how long it took to get everything out... would have been even longer with out the FEL.

You are correct, the lean-to is newer. The main barn is over 100 years old. And the lean-to is around 20 or so. Most of the wood on the inside isn't that old, but you can see on the outside of the lean-to that it's older. So, I'm going to guess, 20-30 years maybe. The floor is concrete, which was very surprising when I saw it. I for sure thought it would be clay. The floor is cracked in most places, but I'd take that over clay, or rocks any day! :) The poles are telephone poles, good eye. They should last quite some time. I think I might bust out the pressure washer, to clean the floor better, but I don't think 1500PSI will do it. It's pretty packed and nasty... Oh well. Again, thank you for the kind words. I'm just happy that it is done. Now all I need to do is brace one of the beams with steal so that I can cut one pole down, then I'll be able to drive my old junky F350 on the far side :D

I'd be real careful about taking one of those posts out. Unless you plan to run an I beam or something between the two on either side of the missing one, you're leaving a pretty long span unsupported. Ag buildings around here don't need to conform to building codes -- you can do whatever you want when you put one up. Yours may not be up to the local specs as it is, so check before you weaken it any by removing a post.

Your roof doesn't have a lot of pitch and the span in between posts looks to be over the usual 8 feet. If you get any appreciable amount of snow you might wish you had left that pole. How about bringing the truck in from the other side -- make a door where one of the windows is now?

If you park the tractor in the lean-to, could you bring the truck in and nose it into the bay where the tractor is now, then back it in between the posts next to the trailer? That way you wouldn't need to mess with the building at all.
