Today while digging the pond, I came across a large boulder.
I estimate it weighs a couple thousand pounds. The poor Kubota could not lift it. So I pulled out the pickup with the 8000Lb winch
and with the winch pulling from up above (operated by the Mrs) and the kubota down below helping to lift with the FEL, we got the monster out. See photos

My small pond has about dried up. It's situated around a wet weather spring but we haven't had much wet weather lately so it's drying up. Last time it dried up was about 4 yrs ago and I dug it out then also.

Just a couple 3 weeks ago it was a thiving pond with large crawfish and a huge resident snapper. I guess they've gone deep into the last remaining water/mud now...

It's dry at one end so I'm going to dig it out tomorrow. The pond muck actually makes great soil conditioner for my garden.

What are you gonna do with that monster?

Good going Mike.
There is a man in Australia named Ayer. He has a rock that needs your help.
Push your rock into the middle of the new pond for the birds to stand on.

All the best,
Martin

Isn't it winter time down under. Dirt around that rock may be frozen! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Good job Mike! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I hope you won't get another one like that before the end of the job.

It has been very dry in ohio here this year as well. I can't believe that I was able to dig down 5 feet without hitting water. Normally the ground water here is so high that if you dig down just 2 feet anywhere in the yard that you hit water. I hope I get enough dug out before the water comes back. Just two years ago in July, we had so much rain that this is what the yard looked like in the area where I'm digging the pond (see attached). There used to be a pond here, but the previous owner filled it in. I'm trying to put it back like it was before. It is fed by an 8" drain tile that comes off the corn field next door.

If it happens again, what'll happen with the pond? It'll overflow so much that there won't be a pond anymore. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
