Digging with a FEL..

I think KCender did some major excavation with his tractor, too.
Digging this test pit was one of the first things I did with my tractor:

I'll confirm what James KOUA said - I got schooled on that job.
4 things I learned:
> How to use the FEL at a beginner level.
> I was lucky to have a bucket slightly wider than my rear tires (sidewall to sidewall).
> A brush hog is not the right implement to wear to that dance - but it was the only heavy implement I had at the time and it was much better than not enough ballast weight.
> It's amazing how easy it is to get stuck, down a ramp of wet clay with a bucket full of wet clay and no ballast weight on the 3pt.

Thanks all. The soil around here is mostly clay. How would I use the bricks for road base? Is there some kind of crusher?

I am also thinking about using them as a backstop for a pistol range. I was going to bring in some fill dirt and build up a burm but now I am thinking that all of these bricks would make a bigger and safer backstop. Thoughts?

Thanks
Wade

I would be afraid of ricochets using bricks as a shooting back stop.

The bricks with a little soil on them would make a perfect range backstop. IMO.

I have a FEL and a tooth bar and I installed my septic system with the FEL. A box blade with rippers to loosed the soil would make things go smoother. I used a tiller to loosen the soil so I would not compact the ground. You could also use a sub soiler to loosen the ground up a bit. Tooth bar really makes a big difference in how well your FEL can dig. I bough mine off of Ebay seller IowaFarmTools

layer of bricks, layer of soil, layer of bricks, etc, water down, cover whole mound with foot of soil, plant with grass, shoot.

I remember a pleasant afternoon, with a friend with a 7mm magnum Remington 700 rifle, and both of our wives. We were at some old quarry or mine if I remember correctly near Joplin. The friend also had brought a bunch of old bricks. We used them as targets. One shot with the 7mm Remington magnum and they turned to instant dust. All four of us took turns with the rifle and the bricks. We had one heck off a good time. No ricochet's. The hydrostatic shock of that powerful rifle just pulverized them.

The shock works on bth ends of my Ruger 7mm mag. Mine has the stainless, with composite stock.

I took the first shot, when I went for the second............I said ouch. One heck of a bruise on my shoulder LOL. Got a muzzlebrake made for it.
