Sorry guys -- I know you gonna hate - but these are the only pics I took. It was for a sewer project I was working on

wow, i can't imagine getting half that much digging done beside the road in front of my house before township, county and state officials showed up :talktothehand:

Some good advice here.......as for tooth bars.....check out Piranna by BXpanded. I just put one on my small Yanmar 186D.....made digging out a hill a breeze. Also...good for brush clearing. The company is back in you neck of the woods.

I have a 900' gravel driveway that gets holes in the same place everytime I fix them. These are in 2 turns so I am guessing it is the weight of the vehicle going around them? Having the well drillers trucks out here this weekend just made things worse!!!

If you are getting ruts in the same place, it is possible that your base is being affected, and just top dressing won't really fix the issue. It may also be that you have runoff issues. Getting the crown correct in a turn is more complicated than in a straight. Anyway, it could just be that's where the cars turn so that's where you get ruts, but there may be other issues as well. Gravel roads tend to cascade, with one problem causing another, causing another, in a feedback loop. So the car creates a small depression, which collects water, which causes a rut to start, which creates a channel for more water, etc... It's seldom the case that there is just one problem, but the earlier you catch it, the easier it'll be to fix.

I concur with many others here, you do all sorts of digging with a fel and a weight box or other fairly heavy rear implement. Most of my digging is in clay ! I have dug hundreds of feet of 2 or 3 foot ditches just being perpindicular to the ditch with toothbar, then take toothbar off to make smooth sides. Dug foundations for outbuildings down four feet, you just need to be willing to have a 30 to 45 degree ramp down to the depth you are digging . I have even dug fence posts , it just makes a big hole but you place post in corner of hole and fill in and drive over the fill with your rear tires to pack it down. I wish I could of afforded a tractor with a backhoe, but you will learn to make do !
