I lucked out on a posting on a Farmall page on Facebook a little over 2 years ago where a supposed tire shop in VA. was selling Michelin 12.4-36 6 ply radials for $300 ea. I did a online check real fast and saw those tires cost anywhere from $975 to $1300+ ea. depending on dealer. I messaged the guy asking what shipping would be to Columbus, OH. He messaged back and said it was too late to check but call him the next morning around 10:00 and he'd have me a quote. Gave me a phone number to call. I did a Google search for the number and it came back to a tire dealer in VA so I felt a little more confident it wasn't a scam.
Called and a receptionist answered stating the tire shops business. Asked for so & so and put me through to him. He told me $125 to ship on a pallet to a trucking company facility 17 miles away. Or would provide lift gate service for another $50. Decided to pick them up, and they would set them on my trailer. While on the phone asked him if they required a radial tube or would a regular tube work. He said heck, I'll throw in a set of tubes. Still uneasy I told him I wanted a set. Put them on a credit card in case it was a scam. Sweated bullets until two days Old Dominion Trucking called and said my tires were ready to pick up. No doubt I was a pretty happy guy. I have to complement the forklift operator as he was pretty delicate loading them. Once on the trailer, I saw 2 sealed boxes with the inner tubes. Strapped them down and headed home.
I noticed when they were loaded they had John Deere yellow several places along the bead otherwise brand splinter new. I just assumed they were take-offs from a field sprayer or something similar.
Got them home and Mounted on my old Farmall Super C. After taking the picture of them mounted I had to chuckle. $3K worth of tires & tubes on a $1500.00 tractor. Unless I run over something and puncture a hole in them, they should last me the rest of my life. As one of my buddy's in our tractor club say's... "It will look good on the sale bill someday..."
