Dish Network vs Direct TV

I was with Charter, and prices kept going up for my triple play. Was at $140 a month. Asked Charter if I could have their $99 triple play special, was told no. Switched to internet phone service for $3 a month, stayed with Charter internet for $59 and added DirecTV for $29. All prices include taxes etc. After I cancelled Charter, they offered me $89 triple play, and keep offering it to me all the time. When my DirecTV deal ends in Jan 2018, if I can't get a comparable price, I will switch back to Charter. My #1 complaint with DirecTV is the signal goes out during storms and the dish gets out of alignment and they charge $50 to come point their dish at their satellite again.

Seems like the package I have has too many infomercials & buying channels than I care to have. I wish I could choose my channels. I would delete all of these
Can you set up a set of favorites? Dish allows this and your better half can have her favorites list as well. This way you only scroll through the channels you might be interested in.

I've been with Dish for a long long time now. They moved me once and have replaced (upgraded) my receiver dish and connectors more than once for free. Usually as a result of a service call. I also use the Dish Anywhere function so I can watch my 'TV' live or recording anywhere in the world where I can get an internet connection. Also can tune in on my cell phone but need to be careful about data usage if not on wifi. I just upgraded to the hopper and joey system so there is now only one DVR hard drive for our 4 TVs. Nice that you can record in one place and watch on any TV. Yeah we are junkies.

they say they have to auto bill??....meaning they can do a direct hit against your checking account.....I WILL NEVER DO THAT. ...... NEVER.

That's certainly your choice, I just use a credit card for the automatic monthly payment on Sling. No big deal IMO. I'll never sign a 2 year contract for satellite TV again or waste my time trying to cancel service.

We ABSOLUTELY LOVE our DVR! I NEVER watch commercials and I never miss a show I really want to see either!

Commercial skipping is the best thing ever!

BUT, HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

I have no cable and internet and TV are Dish with two separate dishes. I have 10 Gig Data for the computer and HD TV with 120 channels with box for 2 TVs. I have more mi=ovied=s than I know what to do with on these channels. I pay $140 monthly. I think it is too high but don't want to switch if it is not any better.

ATT and Direct are in the area and are always sending literature but I heard they are higher. Sometimes it is impossible to compare with the exact terms but I am really wondering what others are doing. My SIL is getting it cheaper but has just a few infomercial channels and no movies and no HD but that would be a waste to me.

I don't want the TV run through the computer or anything fancy, but what is a fair price for the specs mentioned.

Everyone's needs and wants and situation is different. If you want to know how much a specific package is going to cost, whether it be Direct or Dish. Call them and get a quote! Us Yahoo's online can tell you this and that but it really doesn't matter until you get the numbers from the providers and compare for yourself.

If you are an existing customer of one of them call them and ask for the retention department or cancellation department. Tell them their competitors deals and their deals for new customers. Tell them if you don't get the new customer deal you are walking.

They will usually give you a deal that lasts at least 6 months for a much lower price.

In your case call them and tell them unless they upgrade you to HD AT NO COST you are leaving to their competitor. They will do it.

When I first started with Dish they wanted like $200 to do the install. I told them no way because Comcast would do the install for free. So they said they could not waive the install fee, but could give me a $200 VISA gift card. Ummm..... ok. Guess what, I used the $200 gift card to pay the first month's bill which included the $200 install fee.

You have to call and negotiate and you will save yourself mucho dinnero each month. Out where we are satellite is the only option. Comcast is not out here nor is Uverse (AT&T).

My #1 complaint with DirecTV is the signal goes out during storms and the dish gets out of alignment and they charge $50 to come point their dish at their satellite again.

Unless they did away with it there should be a utility in the receiver that measures signal strength. When I had it the installer didn't support the dish well on the gable of my house where I had it installed. It sagged and started losing signal. They wanted $70 to have their person come fix the problem he created. I added a brace to secure it and used the utility to aim it. Amazing difference in how it would maintain signal even in the rain. It may require two people, one to watch the screen and one to aim the dish. Or you can make small adjustments and go inside to see the strength differences.

When I kicked them to the curb they only wanted the receiver returned so I have my antenna rotator mounted on the old dish mast I secured. :)
