disk spool / spacer (what material)

I need 2 obsolete disk spacers / spools. I may not be able to find exact matches for them, which is important to me. I have a good friend that has a machine shop. I feel certain he could make exact replicas for me. I think the spacers I need were made of cast metal. If I have them machined they will not be cast. Is there anything about cast spacers that make them the preferred metal for disk spacers, or are they just easy and cheap to mfg with cast metal? Would there be anything bad about machine a disk spool / spacer out of steel?

Cast would have been much cheaper. The old cast iron was pretty good quality cast iron compared to the stuff you get from China and India nowadays. I'm not positive but I think some of those old disc spacers were manganese steel...tough stuff!

Nope. It might not have the exact same look as the cast ones, but unless you are a real nit picker, that shouldn't matter.

john deere dealer sells some that's close enough to work i think the disk number is 110 or 115.be a lot cheaper than making some.
