OK,i'm back and have read all responses so far.
Actually,i've thought of most of these ideas,(except for the firewood.)
Anyway, yeah, these ideas will all work. Its just a pain diggin from the side as it does take alot more time, and makes a really big hole where you dont really need one.And it does get covered back up.But sometime i might just have something to do where i can't dig from the side.I guess thats where "planning" comes in.
The last trench i did was about 4' deep and i REALLY did'nt want to get too close to it.:DAside from possibly getting hurt,I dont want to scratch my "baby" ;)
I just thought that someone with more expertise than myself could tell me if there were a really easy way to do this.Good ideas really guys, and thanks for the suggestions.
I also dug myself into a corner once, had to use ramps to get off.It was kinda hairy. But at least nobody was around to see me do such a dumb thing. That would have been embarasing:eek:....anyway,thanks for your time guys....................Digger2

I just set some firewood rounds in the trench where the tires will cross.

Steve

Steve, you are clever! I'll use your idea if you don't mind. I will give you credit of course.
