DIY fire pit

   / DIY fire pit #52
I just completed my DIY fire pit after three days of hard work in the heat, and I’m thrilled with the result. Tonight, I lit the first fire, had a couple of beers, and reminisced about old times. The fire pit design includes holes in the fire ring that are supposed to make it smokeless – still testing that out. My little Massey GC1723 tractor was a lifesaver for moving dirt and leveling the area. It was a lot of work, but totally worth it for the cozy atmosphere.

MANY years ago I built a fire pit. We had a glorious family gathering. The last hour or so - we spent dragging garden hose. The fire pit was directly on the ground - surrounded by large rocks. The fire burned down into the organics and began to spread.

Thank God - I have a ten acre lake and a large irrigation pump down on the lake. Ended up removing all the soil down to about two feet with the tractor and rear blade. Created a mighty mud hole - let it sit over night. Then graded it all back to the semblance of flat land.

First, and last, time we ever did it that way. For darn sure!!!

Why dig up a 3 year old post and copy paste the OP, changing just a few sentences?

OP:
I finally finished my DIY fire pit. Three days of work, in sweltering heat, but finally got it done. Tonight I lit a fire, had a couple of beers and reminisced of days gone by. The holes in the fire ring are supposed to make it smokeless. The jury is still out on that. Glad I own a little Massey GC1723. Ihad to move a couple of yards of dirt to level the area and then spread all the gravel.

A clue should be used to build a chimney less chance for a chimney fire

Lol, I atleast noticed it was a possible spam account and they barely changed the original OP's story....that's why I quoted both and reported it as possible spam.

I’m kinda partial to a fire on an elevated platform.
I was at a party, 15+ years ago. They had a 4'ish wide concrete pipe that was the Pit. It was filled with dirt, so the fire was close to the top. Stand around, drinking beer, BSing...

Nice but my wife gets upset if I bump the seats with my front end loader when I drop a pallet of wood on the fire...
