DIY skidding winch build

/ DIY skidding winch build #41
Bought a good used Farmi a month ago. Way less than what you have in that. But if it works, go with it. That capstan can be dangerous with a long rope. Stretch is the danger with rope. Remember the Ramsey side winder winches?

Farmi winch is definately the best way to go if you can afford it. Its the right tool for the job, but I doubt you paid less for that Farmi than i have invested in mine lol.....unless you got it for under $250. If you did you are one lucky guy.
This capstan works great for what I do to get the 7 cords of wood that I burn a year. It's light, simple and doubles as my trailer mover. You would be surprised at what that capstan can yard out of the bush. I'm not in big tree country so my max diameter would be around 14-16" and if there are any bigger than that I would cut them in shorter lengths. I am using one of my fire departments old rescue ropes which has extremely low stretch and a breaking strength of just under 10,000 lbs.
