The tag is pretty weathered (all silver), There is some more lettering on it above this number. I can make out Daedong and Wilson. The tag is located on the left side just ahead of the front axle on the frame that supports the brush guard. I can see no letter at the beginning of the numbers. One of the owner manuals that I have says that the tag is located on the transmission housing on the left side. I did a quick look and could see no tag there.

The tag that is front is the one you want but if you can't read it it does you no good. Do you have a pic of the trctor?

If you can go on my profile there is a pic there. I checked the provincial registration and that is the number on the registration as well.

Appreciate you cannot read the serial number. From the photo it appears you have a DK45. If you know it is a 2005 (or probably anything close say 2003-2006 or early 2007) then that is about all you really need to figure out what maintenance manual you need.

I was wondering about the actual numbers in the code line. There are 9. What's the usual number? For example is it the letter and then 9 numbers or is the letter part of the 9 numbers. Would the engine serial number help me identify it? I appreciate what Island Tractor said but I was reading that parts change with whatever version I have. Could that be a problem for repairs? I'm going to see if I can highlight the tag and make the stamped figures stand out more. I'll let everyone know what I found and perhaps that will help identify what it is. Thanks for your input.

Here's a pic of the tag I can just make out above the number Daedong usa and just below that Wilson No usa. If there was a letter on there it wasn't stamped on the plate.

I believe that means it is is a 2003 (build year) model, type 567 (specific model), serial number 00670. Before 2004, Kioti used the last digit of the year as the first digit of the serial number. A 2003 model very well may have been purchased in 2005. Starting in 2004, they went to the letter system:serial_number

Now that makes sense, because there is no letter on that tag. I am confused by the year sold versus the year built. Is that typical in tractors? What does that do for manual and parts? Would a 2005 do it or should I be looking for 2003 documents? Appreciate your input.

For manual and parts you want to use the year built.
Appears to be a 2003.

Caper: As far as I know, there is only one owner's manual and one service manual for the original DK45 and those manuals are poor, at least in comparison to the latest manuals. Know that the DK45s and DK45se are quite different from your tractor. You should be able to buy DK45 manuals from any Kioti dealer but you can also download the owners manual here and the sections of the service manual here. There may be updated manuals, but I doubt it; for example Kioti never produced new manuals for my 2006 DK45s after they changed to a different engine.

As far as parts are concerned, there are several good dealer-sponsored online parts sites like this one by Michigan Iron. Don't mess with the quick search; use the search by model menus. When a different versions of a part are used during production you need to use your serial number to select the correct version. Generally, tractor builders try produce the same model for several years with only very minor changes but recent US EPA rules (e.g.Tier 4) required more frequent changes recently.

In terms of build year, it is VERY common to buy a tractor "built" the previous year, especially early in the calendar year for tractors built in Asia (which is all of them now). "Two-year-old" machines are less common on a dealer's lot but can be priced very attractively.

Personally, I prefer the older, more mature Tier3/3a engines to the new Tier 4 designs, which are complex and computer-controlled. A DIY mechanic can do a lot on the older machines but I think only a dealer can diagnose the computer stuff.

Many thanks, it is frustrating to find out that my tractor is 2 years older than I was led to believe but I have learned a valuable lesson. Check the serial number before buying. Kioti makes good tractors. The tractor has low hours, just over a 1000, so it should serve my limited needs no problem. However I know with age parts start to go so that is one of the reasons I want to familiarize myself with repair issues and the operation of the tractor. I'll check out the sources you linked ritcheyvs.

Tractor age is typically based on when first put in service and by hours so your situation is not unusual. Not the same as automobiles.

Yes, it is very common for tractors to be sold a couple of years after their plated manufactures date.
