I just traded up to a DK40seHST from a CK30HST. Needed larger tractor with more power. Had issues with the CK30HST using 6' rotary, and dragging heavy logs from land I'm clearing. Haven't had a chance to put the DK40 in any heavy usage yet. I'm curious what to expect. I've found the DK40 smoother(engine), and hst more responsive with more precision. I'd love to see the DK40 being able to spin the tires in med. range. Thanks.

Mine spin even in mid range in dry conditions. Not such a great thing as the R4s do a pretty good job of ripping up the turf when they spin and I have little tractor tire divots all over the area I am working. Gotta get around to adding more weight.

I am sure Island will speak up on this as he has tons of experience. I run a 6ft. rotary behind my 45se and you don't even know it's back there. I typically run it in 2wd too and have had very little issue running the rotory up hill in waist high hay type grass..

The only time I notice my 6' behind my 45 is when I hit something. Other than that its fairly quiet (relatively speaking) and puts no strain on the tractor.

I haven't gone thorugh any waist high deep stuff, some 2 foot stuff that I only occasionally cut, and when I went through it it was just like cutting my regular grass (i did up the RPMs beforehand though to about 2300 and was in medium).

I think I can count on three fingers how many times I have put the 45 in low gear and two of those were just expirementing.

I use low gear quite a lot. Not necessary at all for mowing but for digging out brush and knocking over trees it is very handy. Trouble is the tire spin which is obviously related to R4s and not enough ballast. I like the R4s as a good compromise and will get around to adding ballast one of these days.
