Do I need a pulverizer?

HI All

I'm in the process of rejuvenating a pasture. It has been neglected by the PO for many years. There was standing water and now the ground is pitted with clumps of grass and other "swamp grass" (I don't know what it is called). I have used my rear blade to correct the drainage problem at the perimeter of the field. Now my question is what implements do I need to repair the field. I would also like to do some slight grade improvement to help drainage.
I have a 7ft rear blade and a 7ft landscape rake.

The area that I need to work on is about 2 acres. I have a 39HP TYM tractor that seems to handle 7ft implements fine.

I was thinking that I either need a tiller or a pulverizer but I'm not sure which one makes the most sense? Any thoughts?

If the water problem is properly fixed, that swamp grass (those large clumps) will go away on their own. I don’t have any experience with a pulverizer, but a tiller will just bounce over them. But again, you shouldn’t have to worry about them once the drainage is fixed. In my experience, slope is rarely the proper fix for wet fields. The proper fix is usually either drainage tile being put in, or sometimes something as simple as a drainage ditch through the center will fix it. I would start with a simple ditch with your rear blade first and see how it works out. When the drainage is fixed, check your soil before spending any money on seed. The pH is likely low, and it’ll probably need fertilizer.

I would use a Harley Rake (brand name) or power rake. It's purpose is exactly what you are looking for. It will pulverize and smooth out all at the same time. You should be able to rent one. They are about $125/day here. Then you can seed right over the top and be done. Go to everythingattachements.com, scroll down to tractor attachment harleyrake, and watch the video at the bottom of the page. That will show you exactly what they do. I have a pulverizer and it has proven to be a really handy implement. My project was only about 3/4 acre. I ran my harrow to loosen the crust and chop up the grass and such and then put my rake on and was not all that pleased with the result, did not level as well as I wanted. Put the pulverizer on and leveled out the gound like a pro. This took a few hours over 3 weekends. Have also smoothed out a gravel driveway with it. It is nice to have one but I have a whole lot less tractor than you and 5' stuff is a lot cheaper than the 7' stuff you need.
