You have a tractor your wife likes and you wanted to sell it. That alone sounds crazy to me.

Send the guy back his $$$ minus the $1000 agreed and consider yourself lucky. You have a tractor your wife likes using and that is worth lots of $$$$. That means she is doing stuff with it while you do other things. That is a good deal!

The issue of cultivation remains a sticky point. I have done this vegetable growing, commercially all my life, sometimes part time, and full time as a youngster. There is a work around, though not a perfect solution. You have to alternate "high" crop with "low" crops, row on row. That way, you are only cultivating the low crops and allowing the outside of the cultivator to work the "high" row. You alternate rows, in other words. It is ok. I just prefer to plant similar plants side by side. They seem to do better next to their own kind.

Maybe I'm a sucker, but I'd give him a break and let him have his money back except maybe $250-$500. I know its giving money away, be it seems to me he is being pretty fair about it.

Have you looked into the B2320 at all? Take your wife and test drive one. They drive very similiar to the BX. But.. you are in a tight pinch and a little extra dough is hard to come by these days. I would pray and sleep on that one. Good luck!

Yes, we drove one around the sales yard, thus her feeling it is big, but, of course, it is. She'd adjust, no?

Yup, believe you confirmed my own thoughts. Kinda thought the same thing. Sleep on it. Never hurts.

Who in their right mind would pay for a tractor on a private craigslist sale and then not take delivery of it right then and there? On top of that, they ok'd the seller continuing to use/abuse the tractor while they were fiddling around for "weeks"? Heck, that's even better than "don't be gentle, it's a rental" since you're not even renting the darn thing. It sounds like this guy was not ready to buy a tractor, or worse yet up to something. I would make sure the check clears if he paid the balance that way (you said "cash" so unless it's counterfeit you're good there). I would then tell him to come pick up his tractor. I'm sure nobody is going to agree with me based on the posts so far to this thread, but unless the buyer/seller are buddies or related this whole scenario is rotten.

Again, there was no check to clear, other than the original deposit, which cleared just fine. He hadn't made arrangements for it's shedding nor for its transfer. Doubt he even owned a trailer of any kind. Nope, not a friend. "Abuse" the tractor? I don't think so. You are very right about one thing, he wasn't prepared to be a tractor owner, that is for sure. Is his "move" excuse bogus? Who's to say? Just plain old fashioned buyers remorse? Shrug.

I will say this though. You're a heck of a nice guy to consider buying it back. I would much rather have bought from a seller like you than a paranoid untrusting person like me :)

Well, I did not ask for this, believe me!! To use your word, it does indeed stink. It re-opened all the "stuff" with the wife and all, that was gone over and closed, if you know what I mean? What was to be a simple sale, followed by a time of new machine shopping, has become what it has become. Sometimes life is goofy. Sometimes you just make lemonade.

Nice guy? Yeah, most think so. Well, I am actually at peace with it all. I am too experienced (old) to be all hot and bothered. I count my blessings. I thank God for another day of life. Spring is coming, life is good. It will be what it will be. It's hardly the end of the world.

I would take his offer and refund his deposit less the $1K. You did suffer some economic harm in that you lost the opportunity these several weeks to find a verified buyer. By his deposit, your were bound not to sell the tractor to anyone else, even if they came with a higher offer.

After that, I would just trade in the BX1860 on the B2320 you're wanting and use the extra $1K to make up for the lower price you'll get trading wholesale. Life is too short, so why go through the hassle of re-posting the 1860 for sale and not have the tractor you really need for your organic gardening when you need it. The wife will come around.
