Only pipe fittings need sealant. Most others use gaskets or metal to metal.

The only fitting needing sealing is where it adapts to the cylinder itself. Silver goes into orange via pipe thread.

NPT(pipe thread)needs sealant(not teflon tape),tapered threads do not(metal to metal).

I don't remember the name of it but when I did some fitting replacement the thread sealant was listed for hydraulic lines.

I'm not aware of any hydraulic hose fittings that need sealant. I've heard that if you use sealant, you risk it getting into your hydraulic system, and potentially causing issues.

Tapered threads need something, tapered seat fittings (SAE/JIC) do not need sealant, and if there's O rings then those do not need sealant either.
On tapered threads tape is fine if used CORRECTLY which most people don't do, the tape should start one thread back so none get into the medium inside... Thread sealant is a lubricant and a sealant so it covers both but some people use tape and sealant...

Only tapered threads (NPT) need sealants.... Tape or paste or fluid (locktite?) .. Straight threads do not "seal" they provide pressure to make a metal to metal contact seal (like JIC connection) or use some sort of gasket ("O" Ring?) to make seal..

The hoses themselves are self sealing. Usually they have 90 degree fittings that screw into the cylinders. Some machines have O rings on those fittings but pipe thread that requires sealant is more common.

Just went for it. The existing fittings didn't have sealant. There was also an o-ring inside so i think I'm good with just tightening.

The 90 degree elbows threads into the boss on the cylinders, then the nut, is actually a jam nut with a o-ring inside. This provides the sealing of the fitting and also allows you to rotate the 90 degree elbow to whatever position you need.
The hose seals on the elbow using a taper.
No need to any sealants on those fittings.

I was assuming that everyone knew that O-rings are the sealing method where they are used. The sealant I mentioned was for threaded connections such as where a Pioneer male or female fitting is screwed onto a pipe.

Did you replace the O-Ring? From what I understand, they have to be replaced every time you take off the hose because they become crushed when tightened.
I have a kit that I bought from Amazon with a huge selection of O-Rings to choose from. It even came with a few tools for getting the O-Rings off that's very handy.

Ditto on that. I also have the bonded sealing washer kit, the copper crush washer kit and the aluminum crush washer kit. They all come in handy around the shop. I was going to get a nylon washer kit, but I've been using washers I've stashed and accumulated over the years.

Loctite 545 (purple) is for NPT hydraulic threads. Only NPT fittings need anything. It isn't required to use, but helps stop any small leaks or weeping. Cylinder fittings are often NPT, but not always

I didn't but probably should have. I'll keep an eye out for leaks and replace since I have one of those o-ring kits from Harbor Freight
