And I look at from the other side. I drive em till there's nothing left. Synthetic oils and grease has helped me to keep truck, cars, tractors, machinery and small engines/transmissions running longer. I'm the guy that buys used most of the time. And I have to watch what I buy because of the guy that didn't give a hoot how he treated his machine. What does he care. He's going to trade every 2-3 years. I know people that buy a new car or truck and never change the oil. They just trade it in every two years.

I see the waste in this country as a pure shame. Just extended drains alone would cut down on waste oil and also the oil we have to buy from other countries.

To each his own but when the price of oil gets high enough this country will change it's ways. At the end of the day I feel I've done my part to help cut down on buying foreign oil.

Not trying to pick a fight here just expressing a veiw of the opposite side.

One would think he has a stake in lucas

If you'll read the whole article about gear oils, at the end Bob says " it (Lucas) created more problems than it solved ". If he had a stake in Lucas, he doesn't anymore /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

( Im with ya wholeheartedly... There ARE certain instances where running a Syn oil would..IMHO..be MANDATORY! ( I always use the "big diesel in Antarctia scenario) But I have to giggle to myself when I hear / read stories of people using it syn oil) so their stuff will run "longer". Longer than WHAT? Longer than THEIR lifetime? I could give a hoot what the next owner of my ( fill in the blank) uses a piece of my equipment or or how he treats it. Im dead..Im gone...who cares! ) [/list]

As I have said, I & many others use synthetic to save money -(longer drains) better protetcion & if my stuff happens to last longer, then that's a + also. I try to drive my stuff till there,s nothing left. In my opinion , with the cost of new,That's the only way to come out to the good on a new vehicle, but to each his own,. It you have the time to change oil all the time & don't like to save money doing longer drains , I'am ok with that. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

John Robison did say in "motors". From that I also understood it to mean internal combustion and not electric motors.

No prob Ken - yow, I just went over to my printer - 14 pages! I'll see if I can come up with a good "book report", just like back in sixth grade. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I have fond memories of sixth grade - that was the best three years of my life. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
