Do you cary a weapon on your tractor?

Why, the crimminals carry all the time? but you are horrified that an average law abiding citizen might carry one? Excuse me but I think that is the same kinda backward thinking that has Western Civilization in decline. Long ago I had hoped that Australia was so remote it might be spared the disease but back when they had the --ah--gender challenged group singing at the Olympics I realized the infection of the PC Mindsnatchers was far advanced there as well, perhaps terminal. I won't say last rites just yet but it is time for you Aussies to Just Say No to PC and Mind everyones buisness big government. We gotta make a stand dudes before it is too late. Has anyone ever considered that we HAVE been invaded by aliens and that they are everywhere and there is only a few of us earthlings left? J

I wish I could get someone to do a buy back close to me. I have a couple of old broke down guns that I wish I could get some fool to give me $100 for. They aren't worth fixing and aren't worth shooting.

That's what they usually get when they buy 'em back.

Those people that poo-poo animals attacking a loud tractor haven't thought about what happens if it quits on you. I've gotten stuck out in the sticks quite a few times and large shapes crashing through the bushes aren't any fun when the only weapons you have are an army entrenching tool and a bumper jack. One time I was exploring an island out the mouth of the Pearl river in between Louisiana and Mississippi and ended up spending an hour or two up a tree swatting deer flies when a couple of feral hogs took offence to my presence. If you don't know for sure what is running through those bushes it wouldn't hurt to have a little something to get whatever's attention. Even if you miss the gunshot will usually scare it off. So get something louder than a .22. /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

While were on the topic of guns, what was the deal with Wal-Mart and guns sales the other day?

Patrick,
When you buy a firearm and the dealer calls in your information for the NICS check (National Instant Check System), 3 things can happen. You can be approved, disapproved, or get delayed. It is the delayed responses that Wal-Mart's policy concerns. As the law is written, if you get a delay and have not been approved or disapproved within 3 business days, the dealer may go ahead and sell you the firearm. Wal-Mart has decided that this isn't strict enough and will not make any transfer without an approval. They say they will continue to communicate with NICS and the customer to attempt to get an approval, but they will continue to wait for that approval regardless of how long it takes.

Re: Do you carry a weapon on your tractor?

I forgot about the spent casings...gotta rethink the concept of the Compact Assult Tractor.
no problem ... that what they make CarryAlls for ... just mount the optional spent cartridge carrier on it.

Neal,

However I would be horrified if ANYONE here was allowed to carry a gun with them on the street.

I find that rather sad. Aussies were respected and feared troops during all of the wars and "police actions" .... as were the Canucks. Now both countries have had their ultra-liberal governments destroy any ability for self-protection or anything else. If you want to see where it'll end up, why - just look at Mother-England ... where the bobbies and the criminals are now the only people armed and violent crime is at an all-time high. Back when guns weren't illegal ... the bobbies were respected - and not armed. Case closed.

Wow. Even yourself?

Case closed? Perhaps to your satisfaction. On the other hand, if you care to check the numbers, you will find that most (all?) of the countries of Europe, which do not allow easy private gun ownership, have much lower crime statistics than the U.S. Do the numbers fluctuate? Sure do. However, instead of case closed, mind closed might be a better description. Whose mind is closed? You have your opinion; I have mine. There certainly are some other countries where the citizens are routinely armed. Afghanistan is one. Somalia is another. I wonder where George and Tom carried their concealed weapons while wearing those tight-fitting pocketless pants they favored. Not to worry, Neal. Though you will be getting a somewhat skewed idea of the average U.S. citizen's ideas concerning guns by reading this and other related threads, rest assured that the wild west, which never existed at any rate, has not yet returned. Guns and viagra....a dangerous combination.

Neal ... sorry, forgot to mention ... I'm from North of the border ... a gen-u-whine Canuck who has lots of experience with having guns confiscated and not compensated.

Chuck ... nope ... mind's not closed at all ... all I ever need for having my mind changed is facts. Yes, crime in some parts of Europe is less than here ... is that because of weapons (or lack thereof?)? Empirical evidence? Sitzerland (where it is mandated that you're armed) has an exceptionally low crime rate. Also very bad flight controllers.
There's also less capital crime in those Arabic countries where capital punishment is automatic ... hard to sin again when you don't exist.
