I didn’t think that I was alone here and you guys are making my point for me. Most guys really do connect to machinery, they love to watch it and they love to operate it.

OrangeGuy that’s a great picture of a big machine at work, I’m green with envy. How many HP is that beast anyway? Does it handle well in the field?

Pete I know where you are coming from as I put a handle on my tractor too. Hey guys have done it forever with boats, so why not tractors as well? /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Right now with the barn project in full swing the tractor is like my wife. I would be lost without it.

I can't wait to get home, turn the key, watch that puff of smoke from the exhaust pipe. All day long I use the phone to have subcontractors do the work. Other than collecting a paycheck it dosn't provide much satisfaction. A few hours in the seat and an improvement to what I see from the window makes it worthwhile /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Pineridge,

The Allis Chalmers 4W-305 tractor has been re-powered with a 350 HP Cummins. It handles the 18' DMI plow at a 12-14" depth without a problem at 6 MPH. I could plow about 6 acres per hour.

It was easy to operate; hydraulics were crisp, steering smooth, cab quiet and comfortable. The field I was working when I took the picture was right next to a Minnesota State highway. Got lots of looks!

OrangeGuy

P.S. On the same day I worked up the edges of one field next to my house with my "big rig" See attached. My Kubota L3430 is pulling a 75 year old International 8' field cultivator.

definetly! When I can't be on it I read TBN as often as possible to find other ways to use my baby!

Good pics OrangeGuy!
I wondered how my L3010 would look with turfs. You not only gave me an idea of what it would look like, but you showed me what it would look like with an Awesome Cab too. That is sweet!

Boy, its sure nice to know there are so many others out there with the same feelings towards gears, diesel oil & mechanical things. I like to think machines 'talk' to me. (My wife may not think so though, after the third call to dinner!)
Yup, tractors, trains, & pushing dirt /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif Throw in a nice set of polished Snap On wrenches, a good drill press, welder, and maybe a lathe...heaven /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Yep, I like big stuff too. And yes, I feel connected, especially when I wear the seat belt. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Usually I don't join or post to forums, but after reading this thread, I had to put in my 2 cents. I've been fascinated with heavy eqpt. and machinery as long as I can recall.
A neighbor of my grandparents had an old A or B model JD and I remember when we would spend summers at their house, he would be down in his lower pastures cutting hay or whatever, that old JD would be poppin' to beat the band. I think that's when I first realized my fascination with tractors. Man, I loved that old beat-up tractor! He would always park it on a hill so he could roll it off to start it. I still love to hear those old 2 cylinders run.
I'd wanted my own for a long time, but had few opportunities to ever operate or own a tractor until recently. We(wife & I) bought a new house with 3 acres of grass to cut and I couldn't decide between a commercial mower or a tractor. In the end, it was really no decision. I was able to get a really good deal on the tractor, a trailer, and several implements from an individual I knew. He ain't real big, but he THINKS he is. (Kubota L1501/18HP/2cyl diesel) I've had him for about 4 mos. now and still get on it just to drive around the place for no reason. My brother has called the house on several occasions only to have the wife tell him I'm 'on the tractor'. He laughs and says, "It's therapy!" He's right, some people pay big bucks for therapy that doesn't do any good. All my 'therapy' costs is a little fuel and whatever time I spend "in the seat". I see I'm not the only one who feels this way........ Thanks for the thread.
