I just don't like killing them for no reason. They caused a lot of expensive property damage besides the pool. Sidewalks undermined, driveway cracked many times, water under foundations. Really, the only way to control them is to either trap them, or eliminate their food source. And contrary to everything you'll hear, while they do eat grubs, their main source of food is earthworms. So you have a choice... trap them, or poison your lawn and drinking water (we have a shallow aquifer). I don't enjoy it, but I'm very good at it our of necessity.

Yeaah, I get it. One spot on my back lawn was infested with them a few years ago. We ended up using mold spores, or milky spores, as some call it. That seems to have done the trick, but the treatment took a year to cycle in and was expensive for the product.

We don't use poisons on anything. Man made that is....

Here are some foxes and a coyote that are on the property. The coyotes I think now number at least five in the area.

CalG, this ain't PM, and at least 'fox' is in the title.

Look carefully at your fox pelts, guys. Coloring will be uniform right behind the shoulders. Going toward the tail, a 'moire pattern' may be apparent. We call this 'checkering' and it affects what a fur buyer will pay.

Buyers knock the price down for that because although a fox pelt might be 2 sq feet, what 'pays' is a part not twice the size of your palm that's top center ... right behind the shoulders.

OT, IMO moles are best trapped as Moss suggests, or poisoned by 'bromethalin worms' (Tomcat, others..Secondary kills are unlikely) It's nothing like the nightmare of trying to poison canines, a bad option even in desperation.

Like the fish and game guy said- a (black) bear attack is about as likely as being struck by lightning. I would think being struck by lightning is way more likely. Those brown bears are something different- I've been fishing and hunting in Grizzly territory and wouldn't want to live anywhere near them. Good luck to you guys that live with them. I have no problem with the occaisional black bear in my area.

I lived around blk. and brown bears much of my life... I've had them in my yard, without any problems at all...

I'd take them to a mountain lion or wolves ANY DAY!

I've rather have a blk. bear living under my house, than a few wolves in my woods!

I lived around them too, and I saw just how they act!! Forget the BS Nat Geo told you!
