Rob, if you are going to talk lions and wolves, I'll take the foxes any day. I've been to some pretty isolated places but have never seen either in the wild. A neighbor to my old hunting camp in north central PA had captive wolves used for breeding with german shepards to create hybrids for sale. I didn't even like the way those things would stare at me.
I lived around them too, and I saw just how they act!! Forget the BS Nat Geo told you!

I think I'll make a list animals I like living near my house instead of the one's I dont want. I wouldn't mind having Peter Cotton Tail and Bug's Bunny and family around, I'd like to have Bambi and family, aunt's uncles, cousins, first second third...... then for my feathers friends, some hummingbirds, blue jays, chickadees de de deees, and some of God's favorite mesinger birds, all others can enter by permission only on a case by case bases, I'll put a few signs up, reptiles are definitely out, alligators will be given only one warning shot if one is on my doorstep.

It's the truly dangerous **** sapiens sapiens that I don't want living near my house. By far the most likely to cause harm.

Wolves attack humans every year, the deal is, when a native has the problem with a wolf, it's rarely reported... IF a white gets killed by a wolf, then it makes the news.

Wolves are killing machines, they love to kill, kill for sport and kill MUCH more than they ever could eat, if given the opportunity.

Seen it myself, didn't have to watch Nat Geo to get my info...

No concerns with Black bears... we have them around. Grizzlies a whole 'nother story. I went up to an island off the coast of Juneau, Alaska a couple of times courtesy of a friend of mine who was an Alaska Airlines Captain. He flew me up to help him finish out his cabin. Last leg was a seaplane to a private dock. On the walk to his cabin I stepped over the biggest pile of bear scat I had ever seen! My buddy then showed me some claw marks on the log cabin next to his... the claw marks were below the window but were over my head, 6'2"! Apparently, the bear was peering in the window at one point.

When we got to his cabin, the first thing my buddy did is hand me a 10g shotgun with a couple slugs. I asked what it was for and he said, "For when you go outside to take a crap!". I then realized we had a lot of indoor plumbing to do, and quickly! All I could think of was I would be squatting over a downed log and that big azz bear would smell me and I would have to reach for that shotgun with my pants on my ankles and the kick would send me back into my own scat!

But mostly they go hungry.

That ISN'T what I witnessed, over the many years I lived around them!

What then controlled the population? Preditation?

Your witness may be a small sample of the overall condition.

Yet I'm forced to trust them with my life all the time traveling down a road at 50 miles an hour with one of them passing me in the opposite direction at the same speed.
