This seemed like a good mid-winter topic. I finally picked up a turkey gun from my brother, (870 Express) and am getting set up.

I always put choke tube grease on the threads,if not you will regret it later in form of a stuck tube in the barrel.I speak from experience.coobie

Down at the auto parts store, at the counter you can pick up a little packet of anti-seize. Just a little bit will do and they come right out. Another thing is to loosen them up a bit when storing the gun.

I'll second others reply, use grease or anti-seize as it will be there when you get ready to change tubes.

x3 on the anti-seize. That stuff is great and works at almost any temps.

Once you find a Choke and Shell combo you like on a true turkey gun there is no reason to remove it. I havent removed mine in 5 years and dont plan on doing it in the future. I did apply gun oil on intial install.

Now, if that gun needs to shoot dove or something else then anti-seize it.

Ok, now here's a question along these lines,

I have an 11-87 with a chock tube that is cracked. I lent the gun out and it came back with a crack that runs straight down the choke tube. I broke a wrench trying to get it out.

How in the world do I get that tube out? My sense is that the borrower broke it using a different style wrench that only engaged 2 of the 4 notches in the tube.

Take the bbl off and freeze it, then try. Metal constricts when cold, may work.
If not, then a 'smith can cut the bbl down and re-thread.
