Do you replace antifreeze?

/ Do you replace antifreeze? #11
On diesels it is important to change the antifreeze. Antifreeze is "charged" for diesels. It is important to use the specific antifreeze for your tractor. I would change it according to mfg. recommendations and use what they recommend. We usually use fleetguard. It's recommended for most tractors and diesel pickups.

I know you have an older diesel pickup and it's extremely important for that diesel. Those are really prone to cavitation.

I do have the older Ford pickup and buy the little bottles at Ford to dump in to eliminate cavitation but will consider getting many gallons of the Fleet Guard type I have seen at my nearby NAPA. My Kubota manual simply says to use clean water and anti-freeze, LLC (long life coolant) ethylene glycol. It mentiones to never exceed 50% anti-freeze. Now the question is, do I use Glacier melted water or perhaps the French stuff like Perrier. I think I'll stick with the US stuff. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I replace it every 2-years with a coolant that conforms to GM 6038M, ASTM D-4985, ASTM D-6210 and TMC RP 329 Type A requirements.

Never had a problem since 1993.

From what I was told by a Ford dealership owner was that Ford copied the manuals for the international engine; but, Ford did not know about SCA and International has the coolant filters that has SCA in them. So no one added the SCA and got leaks in there wet-liners.

/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif I mix mine 50-50 with distilled water.

I buy the 50/50 mix right off the shelf. Gerard

I mix 50% anti-freeze and 50% RO/DI water. I found that Distilled water is very high in TDS (bad bad).

Oh Mike, please don't tell me your using that RO/DI stuff, it has now found to be very, very bad. The surgeon general says so. I would not use it in a cheap Briggs and Stratton liquid cooled lawnmower engine that you get free with an oil change at a Ted Kennedy Bourbon free for all. As much of an advocate of synthetic oil, I am surprised you would use such an inferior H2O supplement. You really need to start getting your antifrezze analyzed. Pay particular attention to the Bs number, typically, its quite high. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
