Do you still have a "land" telephone line?

Haven't ever had one in my name. Haven't lived in an house with once since 2007. Cellphone and a Google voice number (for Spammers/Craigslist) have us covered.

We have ours- compromised with cordless phones! I hate cell phones.

Cell phones are a necessity to me, I have saved countless trips, gallons of fuel and money with our cell phones. I fought it until about 20 years ago, but basically would lose a ton of client base if I couldn't text pictures, and talk to people from wherever I am. I don't walk down the street texting my BFF, but it is a tool of my trade and a major convenience.

Have land line and cell. Spotty coverage but usually works when in town. We lose power and are isolated on average once a year and for fairly long periods, long enough for the cell tower to go down but the land line usually survives. Wish we had dsl or cable internet but that's miles and miles away.

Only reason for the landline is to get highspeed DSl... Otherwise would not have it!!

No land line for us, not in years. High speed Internet over the cable. Both kids and wife have cell phones. 911 service not really a issue here. LUTT

I love these kind of threads. I have a setup that let me keep my landline number but is totally free (after you purchase the equipment). You do have to have high speed internet, and if you want 911 you have to jump thru extra steps to set that up. There is something nice about keeping that old number you have had for years, and a old school phone is really nice when you have to call customer support and get stuck waiting for awhile (much easier on the shoulder then a cell phone). I gave a quick detail about how to do it in this thread http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/related-topics/285488-great-voip-telephone-service-update.html Just to be clear this is for real and I am not associated with the company that makes the little wonderful device.
Same some money and get rid of that line, but keep all your old phones and number!

We still have the land line and DSL. The wife has a cell through her work, but she only uses it for work. We got a pretty good deal from the phone company. When we switched to paying by credit card, they knocked almost $20 off the bill. We don't have too many calls anyway. Most of the time it is my 85 year old Mamma calling to say her TV is messed up again. I could get a job with Dish just from helping her. {make sure you press the Sat button on the upper left side of the remote, then press enter....}

Land line (& DSL) only. No cell reception at all in our canyon and I'm told it's spotty everywhere else in the county aside from the towns. I could care less since I hate cell phones and wouldn't own one even if it worked here. I often go for days on end with the landline unplugged; phones annoy me.
