Do you Text message while driving the tractor

I don't text while operating ANYTHING, in fact I usually leave the phone in the house if I am working outside. Folks recently feel that with all the portable crap to communicate with, that I'm available 24 hours a day. I don't use the phone while in the bathroom (STRICT rule!!!) I don't use the phone while eating, driving, in church, at the movies, or visiting with friends. I will not answer my phone while in the check out line at the store, while conversing with a live human, or listening to any of my favorite songeson the radio, or watching any of my favorite TV shows. You probably see a pattern here, yep I hate being interupted by the **** phone, and since I am the one that pays for it, it gets used at MY convenience, no one elses.

I'm with you Joe, I hate the telephone whether mobile or land-line. I do keep my cell with me when working outside should I get in some kind of predicament. But the main reason I have the cell on and with me when working outside is to document gypsies prowling the neighborhoods. I take pictures of them, their vehicle and license plate; then I send the pictures to neighbors and the cops. You should see how fast they leave my property once I start taking pictures.

I do have a cell phone, for several years it was my only phone - but I purchased it strictly to be a Phone! I detest texting, so of course my (grown) daughter insists upon texting me. And then gets mad when I don't immediately respond even if no response is required. Why the ding dong can't she just call me, knowing how I feel? Because she hates the telephone....

It's just like that with my sister, 22. She has called once in the last year-her car ran out of gas. Of course, Mom will text her all day, she's a textaholic, too. But she has a Blackberry, so she e-mails, plays games, IMs also. She hasn't used her camera, PDA, phone, and hardly even her computer since she got it.

For me it's no talking/texting while i'm on the tractor. That is my alone time to relax and let my mind unwind from the stress of the job. Carry a phone with me so if i need something i can get ahold of the wife. My personal opinion is we are getting to tied to cell phones and such. Don't get me wrong they are nice to have but some people think they have to have one on them 24 hours a day and i just don't get that.

I'd agree that we may have swung a little too far in getting tied to cell phones. I leave mine on 24/7 only because I have employees working for me around the clock. I'd much rather deal with a little problem at 2:00 am via phone than wait for it to become a big problem by the time I get to work at 8:00. But, having my cell phone on me all the time has taught me that just because it rings does not mean I have to answer it. I have voicemail, caller ID, and text messaging. If it's important, they'll leave a message.

As I have gooten old, I reflect upon some of the lesser milestones: Men walking on the moon, Getting out of Viet Nam, Tearing down the Berlin Wall, Bottled water, and last week, texting while riding a horse.

You want to text while on the tractor, go ahead, it has to be safer than texting while on the highway.

its hard to text with one hand while holding a beer in the other, but I have been known to do it! I am a single man, lots of women communicate by text these days. You do what you gotta do. I have used texting for good reasons too, text a vin# while some one else is at autoparts store. text the traffic jam info to several friends at the same time, we all live in the same small town and take one hwy to city.

To me the cell phone is a tool, not the lifestyle that it has become for so many people.

You people are right- the phone is a tool- nothing more. I value talking over texting, and respect that a live person comes first.
If standing in a checkout and someone calls, I silence the phone and i might check who it is; IE, my boss never calls so I may take it, my mom always calls, I'll call her back later.
I shut off texting for my wife started texting her daughter- we pay 5 dollars a month for unlimited long distance and now are paying text fees for "How r u? Just call her!
Sheesh.

No I don't text message while working.

I don't really get the whole texting thing, I would much rather talk to someone rather than try to pound out a message on my phones miniature number pad with my hotdog like fingers. I must also wear reading glasses now and cannot see a text without first locating my reading glasses. Way too much hassle, so no texting for me on tractor or anywhere else.

I don't text on the tractor, I will take a call if it is important, otherwise leave a message.

Depending where I am and what I am doing I will text, take calls, check TBN, E-mail, NewAgTalk and the weather. I figure if I am in the middle of a 100 acre farm and am just doing something simple like raking hay or discing a field then there is really no harm. It breaks up the long day and helps keep me connected to the world while I am playing in the field all day.

Isn't there some kind of man law against this type of behavior? I don't text, I don't twitter, I don't Face Book or what ever. I am a programmer by trade and probably should try to keep up with all this BS but I just can't tolerate it.

I had just bought my new F250 and had to take to the ditch to avoid some idiot guy trying to text and not watching where he was going. I hit the horn as I was going into the ditch and he fliped me off!!! Nice smooth mowed ditch so no damage but it could of been really nasty.

"Man Law"

If there's not some official website that is the central authority on Man Laws there should be.

BS sums it ups quite well Pitt. Like you I'm not afraid of technology as I was a CADD Dweeb for 24-years; but so much of this stuff is nothing more than a way to suck money out of people.

Speaking of inDUHviduals, I was heading into town today driving my Accord when I came to our infamous double traffic circles. To my left and slightly ahead of me is a GMC Yukon (Suburban clone) constantly drifting into my lane. After getting through the circles, I pull next to this schmuck and its a middle aged woman yammering away on her cell phone. I just yelled at her "HANG UP AND DRIVE!"

Hopefully this link will show the aerial view of the $2.8-million dollar traffic circles. brighton, co - Google Maps Note, the aerial photo was taken pre-traffic circles; but the map lines are accurate.

We had texting and now we have twitter. I'm old so I am not into doing either one. One because I don't know how. I don't feel lthat I need to be in constant communication with anyone. I do, however, carry a cell phone in case of an emergency.
