Do you wave?

not as much as years ago.

Question, when approaching a vehicle it seems to me that if I look the driver in the eye (distance too great to actually see eyes) then they are much more likely to wave before I wave. Does anyone else have this "feeling" or am I just imaging things?

We have had a jeep wrangler for about 12 years and wrangler drivers wave at each other. My wife and I have talked about it. Don't know why.

Yep , I still wave , we live in the country and I return all waves...when we go to the urban areas we don't wave, we are afraid it would be taken as a gang signal...:) I have heard the Wave originated in past centuries as a sign the approaching person was not armed....so he showed an open hand and the other person reciprocated....
I was unaware of that fact. I learned something by your post. Thanks.

we live in a small country area very small population everyone waves but when warm weather sets in we live on the main road from interstate to mount rogers, no waves from these people who ever they are. i have noticed that they get very friendly when there lost and need directions, the biggest thing around here is the bicycyles man there here all summer long and our roads are not very wide, they willnot move over or stop you got to follow them sometimes a half mile before you get around them then they just give you a dirty look. as long as these jerks or just passing thru and not homesteading were fine.

Wave for sure on county roads. For people we (wife and I) know, we stop roll down window and chat. I've spooked a few people land hunting around me by stopping and talking. Rural communities are suppose to be different and I will continue to strive to keep it that way. Glad to see in not alone.

Wave? Depends on the circumstances. If passing a car then usually not unless I recognize the vehicle. While walking the dogs always wave, it's just a way of saying thanks for not running over us. :dog:

Very rural here. Most everybody waves. I like it that way.

I retired from a police department in S. Florida. For the majority of the time I worked there we were a public safety department, which means that most of us were police and fire certified. As the city grew the department updated to bigger and more expensive fire equipment. They started to have dedicated driver/engineers. Since I already had a CDL I became a full time ladder truck driver. I tell everybody that was the best five years of my whole career. The main difference from being a police officer was that when I drove by in the fire truck kids would wave their whole hand.

When I grew up in NC everyone waved, when I go visit, everyone waves. Around here, very hi and miss in rural areas, nobody in town.
