I hope you did not do this!
This is a good way of wrecking the engine.

If you have a check engine light then there is a way to read the code with no special tools at all on a Chrysler with digital odometer.

"The Key Trick"
Get in the truck and close all the doors, with the truck off, put the key in the ignition and cycle it from the OFF position like this: ON-OFF-ON-OFF-ON. Do not start the truck, just turn the key to the ON position. When you are at the final ON position of the cycle leave it ON and the code will pop up in the digital odometer readout. EX: P0441, you can push the trip reset button to cycle through the codes if there are more. You can also hold trip button to reset the codes.

"Low Washer Fluid"

Is the only thing it reads out. :(

- Called around to dealers they would have to "out source it" but would need time to find someone to out source it too

- did find a guy who is a regular mechanic (found out later in the conversation) who another referred us to who is "willing to tackle it."

My level of confidence is dwindling locally (well within 75 mile perimeter)

That would be the last Dodge I would own then. I mean come on, the dealer can not service what they sell?

Fill the washer fluid and try it again. If there is a check engine light, then the code will be displayed.

Where are you located? I do my own work so no dealers for my trucks but I have never heard of a dealer turning away a customer with work...

Is there a Cummins dealer nearby?, or any kind of remote diesel mechanic?

We had the same thing here for awhile till the got the mechanic's certified by Cummin's and who knows with all the dealerships closing he might have lost one close by.Looks like diesel mechanics are scarce where he is.

Out of curiosity, have you tried bleeding the fuel system? On my '01, you can bleed it at the high pressure pump.

I put a new filter in a couple weeks ago. Truck ran for about 30 seconds. Tried priming the system; no fuel to main injection pump.

Turned out, the lift pump had failed. When the fuel system was sealed(ie, I had not opened it to change filter), the main injection pump was still able to "pull" fuel thru the lift pump. Did some research; this is common. It is also why a bunch of people recomended fuel pressure gauges. At least be able to tell when the pressure from the lift pump was failing.

I would break open the banjo fitting at the main injection pump, and see if fuel is getting that far...

Good lead! I had heard that in the long term this situation can damage the injector pump, $. Lift pump upgraded in '06 I understand.

My son has a ford. Ford dealer within 5 miles doesn't have anyone certified to work on diesels.. He has to take it to a ford dealer 40 miles away

Then I would not own a Ford Diesel in that area. Of course many people still do not live within 40 miles of a town with a dealership. My home town is 1 hour from Dayton, 1 hour from Cincy, and 1 hour from Indy and the only dealerships in that drive time is 2 Ford and 1 Chrysler dealership. There were 2 GM dealers and they are now both gone. No foreign dealers in that area.

I would not buy any brand I could not get serviced easy.
