Dodging Mr. Black

After my dad died (87), my mother used to ask, "I don't know why the Lord leaves me here". And I used to tell her that the Lord wants to see how well her kids take care of her. She died at 87 also, and neither one of them suffered very long. Dad was mowing with a push mower when he went down. Mom spent 3 days in the hospital when she went down.

My neighbors call me "Old Timer", just like Gary and some of the others here on TBN.

Now, with my wife gone (9 years) I stay active and sing in the church Funeral Choir. We call ourselves the "Deadbeats". I even had a date with my lady friend today to tour the Fall leaf colors and watched the 1st game of the World Series this evening.

Life is Good

Cheers,
Mike

Been in the same house for 38 years now. All my old neighbors are gone. The last one past just last year. Houses filled back up with young people and now kids are all over the place. I use to be the young guy the neighbors complained about for having college parties and such. Now I go to bed early and lay up listening to the neighbor kids popping fireworks until after midnight. My old house is 100 years old. I wonder how many it has seen pass in that time? Life goes on. Older people die and the young kids move in, only to become the next old people to die. Live like there is no tomorrow and dance like nobody is watching. I try to stop and smell the roses everyday.

Me too. I've got 366 pictures in my phone of such things. They are in a folder I call Flora and Fauna. Sometimes you just have to slow down and study the World around you for a bit to see the jewels. :)

My class of '56 had nine girls and nine guys. There are three men and seven women left; most of whom are in not-so-good health. The guys would have fared better but for tobacco, alcohol and dangerous occupations. I count myself lucky. The hardest part was the recent loss of my best guitar-pickin' buddy of 65 years. Sixty years of unfiltered cigarettes. It's like putting a lock on a room of my life that I liked visiting daily.

Years ago when I lived in San Diego, there was an old upcoming area of town that the realtors referred to as “newly weds and nearly deads”.:laughing::laughing:

Sorry for your losses Gary. I remember a line from a movie said by Morgan Freeman. "Get busy living or get busy dying". That stuck with me and pops in my mind when I get up some mornings feeling lazy. It's become my mantra and my motivation.

Regards,
Mike

Yeah I have folders called "flowers", "animals", "landscapes", etc. I try to see the beauty in even the smallest things these days.

I've never understood why it's considered the right thing to do ( it is ) to have you pet put down when it's quality of life runs out, but keeping your loved ones suffering for months or years. Or worse giving them 'life saving' treatment that only prolong their suffering.

That is an interesting paradox isn't it?. I have had to put a few pets down by my own hand. That sucked bigtime. We have a dementia patient, My wifes mom living with us. In my opinion, it is a fate somewhat worse than death. I don't have any solutions though, just questions.

I moved to south west Tennessee a few years ago and after a year hooked up with some campers from the area because that is an activity we enjoy. Right now I am 68 and am the younger of the group of 20. All other are couples with the youngest at 72 and in rough shape with most of the others at 80-85 in fair shape. Almost everyone drives big class A motor homes and seem to do alright camping. But, I am dreading another 5-10 years down the road when they start dropping off like flies, unless I go first.
