Does a Hard Cab INCREASE Perceived HST "Whine?"

The cab definitely amplifies the sound but heater and dry seat more than make up for it.

I was talking to a few people that have a tractor with HST and a cab.. They said the only way to get rid of the "echo" is to use sound deadening material where ever there is a painted surface. Then also to use a thick insulating blanket for under the seat. They said it will take care of at least 75% of the noise.

Great post! That's interesting and I may give that a try. I've got a lot of glass on mine but it's worth consideration.

I do notice the whine more but overall it is much quieter than the open platform. When using my old L3710 open platform I had to use hearing protection. In my new L5740 I can listen to my radio at a comfortable volume level with no problem, full throttle, heavily loaded. The floor mat on my open platform was just a mat but my cab has 3 different density foams under the mat. Not as quiet as our big Deere ag tractor though.

I've owned a B3030 with cab almost 3 years, and you bet the HST whine is the only drawback I've found. I always use ear muffs on my other open station tractors but they're not HST so it's to deaden the sound of everything else. I've thought about putting Dynomat on the floor up over and under the seat as that's the only place you really can, plus that's where it would do the most good. I haven't though as that creates a whole different problem first and foremost, it's not a car I'm traveling the country in LOL!
Between mowing & snowblowing it's only really noticable when just moving things around or using the box blade or whatever else I might put behind it.

I haven't yet but will be putting a plug in for headphones because I can't hear the radio unless it's cranked up louder that it should need to be and it's more anoying than the "whine". The heat in the winter while snowblowing and the air in the summer while mowing simply can't be beat. I'll never live long enough to wear it out most likely but if something happens I'll be buying another one immediately with a cab as it's the only way to since I'm spoiled now. If your needs are anything like mine you certainly won't regret it.

Oh, if you plan on using a snowblower on it be sure and spend the extra on a front mounted setup. If you're going to spoil yourself like I did don't go half assed and treat yourself to the joys of not having a sore neck and back from looking backwards to see where you're going. Besides that the speed at which you can get it done because you have such clear vision forward will make the job even more of a breeze just like not getting all bundled up to do the driveway will save you time.

tiredguy,

Thank you for the VERY helpful feedback, and I totally agree with you on the front-mounted blower. The idea of the neck and back stress, coupled with the fear that I am going to inhale something living or damaging and expensive to fix, (which would GIVE me neck stress, all by itself!) makes me 100% "on board" with a front mounted blower. LOL

I do have a question:

There is a known issue of (some) of the newer B-series (that replace the B2630 and B3030HSD and B3030HSDC) have a VIBRATION ISSUE, at or near PTO speed, and possibly at lower RPMS as well.

There are lots of threads on this, if you search here.

Can you comment on your B3030's inherent vibration, as felt through wheel, butt, joystick, ('er, the loader valve :) ) or whatever?

I tested a 2005 B2630 (a three cylinder, as opposed to the B3200 and B3300s' 4 cylinder engines) and it was smoother than a newer BX25's (smaller) 3 cylinder engine.

Some people have filled their solid ROPS tubes with foam, and almost, or "completely" eliminated their HST whine, per threads I've read here.

Are there any solid tubes in the B3030HSDC's cab-ROPS protection, that could be similarly "drilled and filled"?

Thanks,

My Hoe

I've done this to the hard cab on my itsy-bitsy BX2230. Not because I wanted to deaden any noise, I just wanted to dress it up a little. Gonna add an iPOD dock and some speakers, maybe a satellite dish and small flat screen duct taped to the windshield. I don't know, there's room in the fuse box for lots of stuff...
