I have spoken to Sims and Curtis. The only difference is that the Sims is less expensive. Sims is made in Canada and the Curtis is made in Worcester MA..... about 30 miles Northeast of here.. Curtis is $1700 plus 5% sales tax and the Sims is $1500 plus $80 freight. At such a close difference, I would like to know who makes the better cab and what the quality differences are. One down side of a soft sided cab is that when the soft sides are worn out, it cost about $500 to replace them. The Curtis hard sided cab is $2700. Lets hear some comments from the people that own one. The Curtis representative said that the hard cab is a big seller, but so far, I don't know of anyone that has purchased one. Curtis was nice enough to fax me the installation manual for both cabs.

I own the sims cab and am satisfied with it. The only down side is that the heater goes on the back panel behind the seat.I have had a few problems with the hoses from the engine that carry coolant. They have been cut by the fan belts for the mmm. My solution was to finally remove the heater and block the opening with the slow-moving triangle. I have found that I really don't need heat in the cab .....of course that depends on blocking the radiator fan intake and opening up the panel under the dash. The defroster fan works great to keep the window clear in the winter and the driver cool in the summer.
I have not had any problem with the wiper nor the work lights. I did install the beefed up alternator so that I could run all of the electric equipment without killing my battery.
The sims cab has but one door that operates. The right side is stationary and is held in place with a combination of velcro and snaps. At some point I am going to get rid of the velcro and go to all snaps. The left door is a metal frame with a soft side wrapped around it. Again, fit and finsh is good.

The Curtis has the heater mounted in the front left, and both doors are working doors with locking latches. They also come off like the old Jeep doors. Other than that they look pretty similar.

And I may just be a whimp but I LOVE my heater! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Bob... do you keep your cab on during the warm months? Do you have any idea how easy it would be to remove it for warm weather? I am leaning toward the Curtis, but still want to learn more about them. I have not seen one on any BX tractors as of yet.

Junkman, the sims removes by undoing about 8 bolts (I forget the exact number). With the heater disconnected it takes about 5-10 minutes to remove/lift the cab off the tractor. I use a couple of the tie down straps with the racheting device to lift the cab off......there are but three wires that have to be undone. All in all no big deal......the tractor sure seems different with the cab off. The mosquitoes and black flies like it a lot better!

I have a Curtis cab on my 1920 with the soft sides. My only problem is that I wish the front window was removable. I keep the cab on at all times and if the front window was removable it would just make a great 4 post canopy with plenty of air flow. The sides are ok. Mine is on its second set and if you do get soft sides try to find someplace where you can store them nice and flat.

Thanks for the information. I contacted them today and they don't make a cab for the BX22/23, but are the OEM for the Kubota BX1500/1800/1830/2200/2230 tractor cab that Kubota is presently marketing. I have not seen any literature or information from Kubota on this item as of yet. Must be the best kept secret at Kubota to date. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Yes, I leave it on. I have no reason to take it off. The doors come right off so I get plenty of air flow and the roof keeps the sun from reddening my pale blue chrome dome! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

It's probably not a whole bunch of bolts to take off but you would have to disconnect all the electrics and the heater. Plus, I think the main cab would be a bit heavy and awkward for one person to remove. I put several pictures of the cab on a web site here that you can check out, or if you are ever in my neck of the woods you are most welcome to stop by and check it out in person.
