If the cat picture was "on the edge", then what do you call the two pictures of dead dogs??? They were seen by more than just one moderator and only a "graphic caution note" was added. That post isn't about tractors, and neither are most of the others on the Photo forum. It is the diversity of subject matter that makes this one forum universally viewed. Please don't take that away from the members by moderation.
Moderating is not up for public opinioin (correct spelling is "opinion") polls. Nobody every likes the referee in a game either. But they are absolutely essential to keep the game going on as fair of a playing field as possible. Calls are going to get missed and made and people are going to get upset.
When this happens the other referee's will review the call and reverse it if it was made wrong. NOT HERE.... you guys stick together better than if you were Super Glued together..
All that I can say is that I am glad that the moderators aren't running this country! If they were, we would be living in a police state.
As for the site being free or paid for, every person that buys products from the advertisers is helping to pay for the site. If it weren't for the advertisers, we wouldn't have a site. I support the site by making purchases from the advertisers and buying the advertisers products through other channels where the advertiser is a manufacturer. I just got a call while posting this that a $700 item that I purchased from an advertiser as a direct result of a thread will be delivered on Thursday. We all pay our fair share by supporting the advertisers. It is a two way street.
I challenge you to be fair and to put the picture back. Let the members see it for themselves and decide. The members of this site have a better feeling for the pulse of the forums than do the moderators in my opinion.

( I think 'we' as a group have digressed a lot from the tractor related issues. I also think the 'powers that be' have been very lenient with the diverse topics that 'we' discuss and the pictures that 'we' post. Every once in a while 'we' need to be brought back to home plate or the focus of this great website will become forever blurred.

Don and Doc,

I see now the issues, better than I did before. Yes, being a moderator is a thankless job, I'm sure. And the site does need to be kept on track. Perhaps the issue is that we "plain old users" don't usually see the process happening, so have no clue anything *is* happening until someone points it out.

Thanks for your efforts, Doc, and that of the other moderators.

Just one observation I would make.. for whatever it's worth..

I think one of the reasons this site works so well is that it's a pleasant, funny, fun, informative, and always surprising place to "hang out." We obviously bend the rules a bit, and you folks obviously allow us to do so.. a bit. Which makes it interesting.. and which encourages people to be here to answer questions. If it were strictly tractor-related, the old pros would leave and the people with questions would have no one to answer them. It's a delicate balance.. allowing a bit of off-topic bantering while attempting to keep the whole thing on target.

I think we just got to see one *isolated instance* of the keeping on-target, and were surprised because we don't normally see the behind-the-scenes stuff that goes on. It's kind of like when the officers routinely allow you to go 63 in a 55 zone, but then suddenly stop you for it one day. Your reaction is "but... huh... you never minded before!" /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Anyway, not to belabor this. You guys do a good job, and I appreciate it. I'm sorry that Junkman got slapped down a bit harshly for something we would normally have expected to have been let slide, but I understand your reasoning and can't fault it.

Best....................Bob

You know there's one thing that really puzzles me about this discussion. You posted a picture that you obviously thought was funny, no relation to anything that I can think of, but you obviously liked it. Now since everyone's sense of humor is different I guess, some thought it was funny and some didn't. Some thought it was "on the edge" or maybe not in keeping with forum rules, etc., etc. and some disagree. At any rate, it was deleted.

Now the thing that puzzles me is "what difference does it make?" What did it cost you or anyone else and what did anyone lose or miss out on? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

( When this happens the other referee's will review the call and reverse it if it was made wrong. NOT HERE.... you guys stick together better than if you were Super Glued together.. )

Sorry, but that's another erroneous accusation on your part. The "other referee's" do concur when the first guy was right, don't they?

LOL! You've got a point there, Bird!

As the famous line in Star Wars says "These aren't the droids we're looking for. Move along!"

Bird,

I think what it boils down to, more than anything, is the calls aren't consistent.

So maybe we need to hit the "notify Moderator" button whenever we see a NON-tractor related post? Just in case you miss one? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

How many things in life are consistent? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif Like Cowboydoc said, it's tough to keep up with so many posts, so yeah, we're gonna miss some, and everyone's not always gonna agree. Even in our courts of law, those judges don't always agree. My wife doesn't even always agree with me, and I've never been able to figure out why. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif But as long as it doesn't cost me any money or physical pain, I can live with it. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

As long as you agree with me, Bird /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Come on, guys! The moderators do a pretty decent job most of the time. I'd agree with 99% of their calls. And that other 1% is not like they're infringing on our civil rights! So what if it's a questionable call? In the greater scheme of things, considering all we've gained from TBN, this is small taters!

Move on! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
