Got a 12 ton harbor freight jack today, but it was raining tonight... Waiting for a dry evening to have another go. Got a replacement caliper and ordered some of the Permatex copper anti seize compound, will have that tomorrow.

Put a screw jack between the wheel and leaf spring. It'll come off. Might want to put a 2x4 to distribute the pressure a bit. Had to do this on my Excursion.

A friend operates a garage and had a Ford dually 1 ton in for some work last year. He had to remove the rear wheels and found they were similarly rusted on the hubs and no amount of brute force & heat was moving them...so I made a tool to remove them. All that's needed is the tool, a wrench and an air hammer with a blunt nose tool in it. Takes less than 10 minutes per side to have the wheels off. It's a "proprietary" tool, so no pics and no description other than you can easily hold it in one hand. :D

I thought you guys were talking about the brake drum, not the tire rim. I never had a problem getting a tire off, but getting off a brake drum sometimes is a bear. Glad they went to 4 wheel disc brakes on most autos now.

I had never heard of it either but it seems the new deicer used in place of plain salt is causing problems. The wheel I had the trouble with, I had changed a flat on a few years before - came right off then. The tire guy who got me back on the road this time had to beat the pee out of it this time.
That blasted Calcium Choride or whatever it is they are using for de-icer now also got me for a total brake replacement on my 8 year old Ford 500 last fall to include the calipers. Some $600 worth.

That's what is causing all the GM & Ford & others brake lines to rust also, Ford Ranger here at work ran in NE Ohio area where they use a lot of it, had the oil pan and valve covers rust clear thru.

Sounds like a plan to sell more vehicles!

I guess my daily drivers here in California would have long ago bit the dust... 85 G20 van and 91 Silverado.

In europe... many of the Japanese cars got a bad reputation because of rust and cost of parts.
