The only problem is that new gas engines in cars are coming with GPF (gasoline particulate filters) on them since they are getting to dirty for EPA regulations.

That's great, only one problem, other then that the specs are spot on, oh there is another minor problem, the gas motor is 3k cheaper, and that's why threads about hp vs torque is comical. It's almost like trying to find out what came first the chicken or the egg, fortunately I know the answer to that but another good answer is in the movie The Founder, 5 stars.................

According to Alexia, the egg came before the chicken. Since dinosaur eggs have been around long before chickens

Sometimes yes and sometimes no on gas engines being cheaper. I think it was either Mercedes or BMW the Diesel engine was cheaper than the gas. Also a lot of manufacturers like to sell the Diesel engine on the more expensive models. I think the 2018 F-150 Diesel will only be available in a crew cab with Lariat trim or above. The number they give you is MSRP, but who pays that?

Kubota has an entire line of æ–—ike for like swap in spark ignition engines to replace thier diesels . In applications where the local diesel emissions regulations are too stringent to meet. Or if LP fuel is to be used instead of diesel.
If the EPA gets away with Tier V regulations . Small gassers could make a limited comeback. Outside of Western Europe and the US , the primary factor keeping diesels in the light duty market is less tax on the diesel . Saving more than a dollar a gallon with diesel vs gasoline makes the small diesel popular in the majority of the entire world market . Kubota Engine America - Kubota SI Series

I'm not talking about air cooled lawn tractors. I recently bought a Mahindra 1526 and I'm pretty happy with it, but I think with Tier 4 emissions requirements the Diesels have lost nearly all of their advantages. Diesels used to be simple bullet proof engines, but now they have computers and DPF nonsense on them. My use for a tractor is all short runs. I fire it up, pick something up to move it 20 feet. Shut it off. or I tow a firewood trailer up a hill for less than a 100 yards and shut it off. I felt forced into the under 26 HP tractor as with my use frequent starts and short runs I would be clogging the DPF quick and I would never be able to do a proper regen as I never work it hard for a long length of time. I understand you can't just do a regen at idle, the engine must have a good load on it. Perhaps a guy that brush hog's a field can do a proper regen, but not me. The diesel engines might last longer, but they are more expensive. I think the only advantage of a Diesel is a bit of fuel economy. I was looking under the hood of my mom's 2015 Honda, it's no powerhouse, but it still must have 80-90 HP? The Honda engine is not much bigger if any than My 25 HP Diesel. It of course has a Cat for emissions, but it's tiny. It has a computer and OXS, but the new diesels have computers and sensors as well. It seems an engine like this would be perfect for a compact tractor. It's compact & quiet. Any 3 or 4 Cylinder liquid cooled gas powered compact tractors out there? If not why?

If your Mahindra has mCRD it does not have a diesel particulate filter! The mCRD system uses catalytic reduction and exhaust gas recirculation. No regen is required. I only have 100 hours on my mCRD 2540, some of it hours-long running, some of it "move this from here to there". No issues whatsoever.

The Tier IV emissions specs for that 25HP and under class are rather slack, Tier I or Tier II specs if it was a large diesel.
Only have to meet CO of 6.6 for a small Tier IV instead of 3.5 for a large Tier IV. No limits on NMHC , 0.19 for a large Tier IV. NMHC + NOX for small is 7.5 and 4.7 for large Tier IV. No NOX for small and 0.40 for large . PM for small is 0.4 and large diesels are WAY down there 20 times less at 0.02.
Your small Tier IV has it rather easy and with minimal controls . https://www.dieselnet.com/standards/us/nonroad.php

Gas engines definitely have their place on our farm. If we have a small job to do and it's cold out...we go for a gas tractor. If one was to do a side by side comparison of modern diesel tractor in the compact market to similarly rated gas ag. tractor of the past, I think you would find that the old gas tractors will generally have more torque than the new compact diesels. When doing heavy work, I feel that the older gas tractors simply do better over all. Of course, older gas tractors use more fuel, are less ergonomic, and are not generally well suited for loader work, BUT they will have better engine performance in most cases. Best of all, old gas tractors are WAY cheaper!!!

I see folks with "horsepower" and "torque" being used as if the two are inseparable. Simply put, horsepower is the torque at a given RPM. You can get any amount of torque through gearing, but you cannot increase the horsepower through gearing. Diesels generally run at lower speeds, and develop their torque at lower RPM, all things being equal (that is, for a given horsepower, and relatively similar displacement class.)

And EGR too, there have been many problems with the EGR on these new engines. Mahindra is working on these issues hopefully they have fixed them.

The newer lithium ion powered cordless drills are an example of this that many people may be able to see and feel for themselves. These newer drills use smaller lighter motors that (you guessed it) produce LESS torque than their older ni-cad counterparts. Now, how do these new drills have so much torque that they can run a big hole saw, or twist you right off of a ladder if you're not careful? Gearing. These light motors run really fast, but don't produce all that much torque on their own. Snowmobiles, sport bikes, etc. all operate under the same concept.
