Hi
How do you tilt the seat forward before you get off the seat?

On my NH TC24 if you have the range selector in neutral and the parking brake set you can get off of the tractor with it running and the rear PTO engaged. But if you have the mid PTO engaged, it is in a gear range, or the parking brake isn't set it'll shut down in about 2 seconds. I've thought about bypassing the seat switch, but considering that my wife mows with it as well, I've decided it is best to leave it fuctional.

NH/ Ford 2120 Will only start with clutch pushed in. Once started all bets are off. You could be standing on ground and engage HSS and tractor will move. Will only start with PTO disengaged. After that once again no protection.
New Holland TN75D, Once stared you can leave seat with PTO running. I do it all the time to operate PTO backhoe. It deos beep at you for a few seconds to let you know you have something running. Beeps the same way iof you leave seat with out hand brake set. Tipping the seat to keep a tractor running seems kinda silly and I can't see what if any safety it provides. Perhaps it is just an anoying thing to remind you that something is engaged /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Have a BX22, can leave the seat with the tractor on. Have to be in neutral to start with the PTO's disengaged but no seat interlock.

My 7800 will shut down if I take my weight off the seat while moving or with the PTO's engaged unless you flip the seat up quickly. I can operated the loader with no weight on the seat. I think these are good features as a lot of people are buying small tractors and haven't been around the older machines or farmers with one arm or a few fingers missing, etc. A lot of people buying these CUT's don't realize the power behind the PTO or the weight involved with these machines. I was using my old man's Massey 135 bush hogging and a guy stopped by to talk to me. I shut the machine down and he walked up and was going to try and stop the free spinning PTO shaft with his hands. Some people just don't understand.

My BX1500 had a switch that would shut it down if I stood up. A short jumper wire fixed that.

It is the interface by which you tell the machine that you want to keep running. It is, in other words, the mechanism by which the tractor determines that you haven't fallen off, but in fact know what you are doing.

:Roy, Boy, that sound like a real PITA if you ask me!"

That's only if you want to operate the PTO off the seat.
If I'm mowing or something, I just put the transission in neutral, disengage the PTO and hop off (with the parking brake on, of course). Since I drop the RPM to idle when I disengage the PTO (slows those blades down), I don't see this as a hassle.

My PT425 can run at any time, with or without the operator in the seat. There are only two pedals(no, not a bicycle), one for forward and one for reverse. There are no brakes. There is no neutral. There is no range selector. There is a parking brake, but it does not have to be on to start or run. The only time I leave the seat while it is running is in extremely cold temperatures when it needs to warm up the hydraulics for a few minutes. I bury the snowplow in the dirt, set the brake, step on the forward, then reverse pedals to make sure the pin-in-slot parking brake is actually working, then carefully exit paying particular attention to the foot pedals and my large winter boots. Otherwise, I set and test the parking brake and shut it off every time I get off, no matter what. And I always use the seatbelt, even if I'm only moving it a few feet. The possible costs of engine wear, starter wear, battery wear, etc... is insignificant to me. It only takes a couple of seconds to be safe and possibly a lifetime to recover from a mistake that could have been avoided.

With that said, I suppose I could remain sitting on the tractor while it warms up. Its only 5 minutes VS a stay in the hospital.

I understand why some people need to get off the tractor while it is running... especially in AG situations, like operating a conveyor, grain elevator(or whatever they are called), hammer mill, etc... and it has to be done. There is no way around it other than to buy a dedicated power plant for each piece of machinery. The important thing is to be familiar with your machine and always practice as safe operating techniques as possible and never take shortcuts to save a little time. Be careful out there. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
