Dogs running loose

The Dog Catcher conjures up images of a 1950s style uniformed man running after an errant dog with a net. I guess nothing is farther from the truth. Not sure what our dog catcher (actually) does.

I donate little or no money except monthly via credit card to the humane society. Could be a mistake given how all big charity run agencies are run and what they spend their money on.

Here, we don't donate to the Humane Society of the United States. It has been getting very poor reviews on its usage of funds. People often confuse it with their local Humane Societies. We only donate to the local Humane Society in our county directly. That way, we know the money at least gets spent here in our community.

I admire your restraint. My puppy has come of age and he has become a chicken killer. My neighbor is furious and won't accept payment. If he doesn't quit escaping, I may shoot him myself.

We stayed with some friends that had a large free range flock of chickens. As you know, chickens are almost irresistible to dogs. Chickens squawk, flap, and run. All the things that light a dog's prey drive. We had two Dobermans. Each had an E-collar. A couple of hours for two days and both dogs would ignore the chickens. I highly recommend the E-collars made by "Sportdog" . It has the range and settings to correct the dog chasing chickens.

Is it legal to strap one [ or two ] on the owner, too.....???? :)

Neighbor (1000 feet away) has chickens. Been thinking of getting a Lab but concerned he would attack them. Do those E-collars have a setting that would activate based on distance from home (aka transmitter)?

You made a typo.

"Is it legal to strap one [ or two ] on the owner, instead?"

There, I fixed it.

The owners should be strapped to a tree and given a good whippin. That would fix the problem, real quick.

Then there is the issue of BARKING! That can piss a lot of people off all at once!

As I indicated earlier, they can learn to get along but in your case it would take a very good neighbor. Mine learn to just lay down and let him maul them, which works as long as I'm there to referee when he gets too rough. The down side is that if another dog, fox, or coyote comes around they won't know to run; I lost most of my flock to a fox one day last year. You might try the "invisible fence" instead. I don't understand why anybody would get a dog and expect it to spend it's life outside; then not even hear it carrying on.
I'd bark all day long, also, if I was tied up all of the time.

Pets are a HUGE part of my life. Other people just have them as just some kind of peripheral, like you would own a garden gnome (sp?) or something.

 If they just want a dog tied up out front, "lawn shadows" make great pets! Or maybe one of those concrete Dalmations to put next to their fake fireplug.
