Actually it is a Labradoodle and belongs to my Nephew! Great dog and just wonderful with the kids!

A Lab and a Poodle mating....I just cannot picture that.
I wonder which was on top?

Nice visual...

But it would be a standard poodle, not the miniature you see at Westminster. Standard poodles were actually used as retrievers in France back in the day. I'm sure a few people still use them as working dogs...

If anyone told me I should come over so their dogs can get to know me so they (the dogs) wouldn't attack me accidentally, I would NEVER go to that house at all, period. I don't care what kind of breed of dog they have. Those people sound like the same people who can be proud of the fact that their mulitple bully breeds eat from the same dog bowl at the same time. Accidents waiting to happen.

About people claiming "our dog has never done this" or "our dog has never done that", you may be surprised to learn this, but at times, for various reasons, people do lie. I'm in no way saying that this is always the case, however, the possiblity exists more than you may think.

Again, what's interesting with working with animals, the animals can't speak, and you assume the person is telling the truth. Again, I realize this is not always the case, however, spend a couple of days at your local court house and actually observe people who are in the court system, and see what you think about "humanity" and people in general. Talk about a different world.

From what I've always read on this forum for the last couple of years, I'm going to go out on a limb and say everyone here (who frequents this forum) is a good person at heart, works hard, loves their family, and tries to do both what is right to ourselves and to others in our lives. We also realize that we have to be held accountable for our actions. I also realize that none of us are perfect, but I'd also guess that the majority of people who frequent this site don't have numerous run ins with the "law". The problem for myself is that after working with some of the "general public", I'm actually afraid of what our society may become. Spend a day with the department of social services and you'll see what I mean (and I live in a very rural area, and I was amazed).

Don't mean to get off track, but what I'm getting at (in a long way of course) is that interesting enough, from what I've observed, it's usually people who come into contact with the court system (not by their choice mind you, but by their actions) that for some reason enjoy the bully breeds notoriety.

Just another observation. I drive about 4k miles a month for work. I do frequent various urban areas. some "not so nice" areas as well located within those urban areas. On average, in those areas, I see various bully breeds being handled by owners in their "local" setting. It's interesting enough that the dog I observe and come across the most is the bully breed in this urban enviroment, and I won't get into what could be considered racial profiling, but there are some interesting observations, at least for myself.

I somewhat disagree with your profiling --

-- I have a forum (www.pbsmiles.com) with over 2,000 members, all of whom own bull-breeds, and none of while are really urban or the like.

Also, dogs are first dogs, and you have to remember that -- pit bulls are bred for dog aggression (unfortunately), not human aggression.

My mom got bit by a family member's springer spaniel over the weekend -- not a pit bull -- but she was tethered and unaltered.

50 stitches. and the spaniel was wagging her tail before she bit her.

I need to be careful with one of my Dalmations. I don't let kids be around him unless we are able to introduce them and am careful with adult strangers. Strangely enough, some of our good friends, as well as our pet sitter, consider him as their favorite of our 5.

Eric, my "profiling" was only an observation, nothing more.

From my observations, it seems that bully breeds to some segments of our society are nothing more than a status symbol.

Per your comments (and not looking at what members you have per your forum) I would guess that the majority of bully breed owners do not live in an urban enviroment, but I would take a S.W.A.G that you would find a higher percentage of bully breed owners per sqaure mile in an urban enviroment (which could be segmented by race and economics) compared to any other areas that you may look at.

I would also guess that where you have the highest population density with these dogs is where you will find a higher percentage of issues, due to various factors.

Brian. I can tell you love that dog. We had one just like him for 3 years. A total clown. Theres something about them that makes people happy. Sadly he picked up a fox bait. We rushed him to the vet but he died on the table. Theres really nothing they can do once the signs of poisoning begin to show. When the vet said it was all over I remember saying almost exactly the same words as you. "Poor fella... He was such a good dog". That was 4 years ago but it makes me misty thinking about it even now.

im so sorry for your loss.. Snicker will be 1 yr old in Oct and I cant imagine not having him around..

We had a close call last spring when he got in to some rat poison my parents had laying around.. Luckily we called the emergency vet and gave him a spoonful of hydrogenperoxide to make him throw most of it up within 15 minutes.. At the vets they gave us some carbon to mix with some food to absord any left in him, then he was on vitamin K (i believe) for a month to

did you replace your dog?

they are breeding just about everything with poodles these days.. The poodles dont shed so they market the mixes are low to no shed, and good dogs for people with allergies..

For the record - the poodle was on top, mom was the golden.. LOL

Brian we also have two (sisters) beagle / poodle dogs. They are about 12 years old and we got for our twin boys and the key reason was because of allergies.

It is also nice that they do not shed.

Airedales don't shed either. I wonder what an Airedale/Poodle mix would be like? Hmmm.....

Our 50 lb Austrailan Shepherd/whatever mix sheds like there is no tomorrow...since she has white, tan, and black hair she effectively "marks" any piece of clothing you have;) I'm resigned to spending the next 12 years or so covered in dog hair, but she is a great dog so I just live with it:D
