Yesterday while walking our 4 dogs through the hayfield our chow mix Rusty became seperated from the group as he often does. While the rest of us continued on we heard Rusty yipping, yelping and barking furiously. I thought he encountered a skunk or worse a porcupine, then we see him running for all he was worth with a rather large deer in close chase. I hollered at Rusty and the deer froze allowing him to escape his charge. He was ok other than his pride being hurt, no doubt our maniacal laughter didn't help his physce any. I was unable to determine the gender of the deer as I didn't see any antlers, but it was of good size. The funny thing is Rusty is usually the one doing the chasing, he runs after them for 50 yards or so then comes back triumphantly. It was different this time
