If anyone told me I should come over so their dogs can get to know me so they (the dogs) wouldn't attack me accidentally, I would NEVER go to that house at all, period. I don't care what kind of breed of dog they have. Those people sound like the same people who can be proud of the fact that their mulitple bully breeds eat from the same dog bowl at the same time. Accidents waiting to happen...

...Just another observation. I drive about 4k miles a month for work. I do frequent various urban areas. some "not so nice" areas as well located within those urban areas. On average, in those areas, I see various bully breeds being handled by owners in their "local" setting. It's interesting enough that the dog I observe and come across the most is the bully breed in this urban enviroment, and I won't get into what could be considered racial profiling, but there are some interesting observations, at least for myself.

I've never had one of these breeds myself, so that probably disqualifies me from even commenting. :) You are right about that couple, and point in fact we don't really hang out with them these days and for more reasons than the dogs. Also, to be fair, these were adoptions, the lady volunteered at the local shelter and would bring these dogs home, so the history of the dogs were uncertain. That's the real part that scared me, you never know when they might have been abused and something trigger a memory. I can see where if you raised a dog from a pup, it would be totally different.

I also agree about the reputation of these dogs probably playing in to the type of dog you'd get if you wanted to look a certain way to a certain crowd in a certain type of area. Then couple that with less than ideal "training" and handling of the dog, add in a video camera for the local news cast - you've got a breed stereotype that causes less experienced folk to be overly cautious and fearful. I'm sure there are some awesome dogs out there, that just look scary.

Molly Mae about 8 months old (she's now 14 months). She is now a solid 48#. Her sire, at 55#, is the biggest Border Collie I've ever seen....and he is a working dog, herding sheep daily.

Brian. I can tell you love that dog. We had one just like him for 3 years. A total clown. Theres something about them that makes people happy. Sadly he picked up a fox bait. We rushed him to the vet but he died on the table. Theres really nothing they can do once the signs of poisoning begin to show. When the vet said it was all over I remember saying almost exactly the same words as you. "Poor fella... He was such a good dog". That was 4 years ago but it makes me misty thinking about it even now.
