dongfeng tractor with y385t wont start help

well got the letter in the mail on sat so I will have to head down to the post office and pick up my head gasket ill post how it all goes tomorrow, i hope that is the fix cause i then have to set my sights on a fel for this tractor, does anyone know if the fel mounting for a dangfong 254 or a jinma 254 is that same as this taskmaster, from what ive herd there all the same tractor just diff color and name

it might be a good idea to run another compression test after re-installation of the head to verify the compression increase on cylinders 1 and 3 - before you install the injectors, and just before you completely button the engine back up...

This would ensure the head work, surfacing and gasket, cured the root cause of low compression on cylinders 1&3 my :2cents:

well i got the gasket installed, I broke my water goose neck but buttoned it all up and tryed to start it and no go I cracked the hard lines to the injectors and was getting fuel, started loosing light so will hit it again tomorrow, all I can say is WTF I hate working on things others have worked on and theres no record, could the po of did somthing with the injector pump and its out of time ? would thid keep it from starting? imgoing to do a comp test on it tomorrw and then run thru the fuel system again,

Sorry to hear about the broken water neck... the only other thing that has not been mentioned (assuming the engine now has acceptable compression on all cylinders and the injector timing is correct) is cranking speed.

Diesels like to start easier with a good battery and starter.

The other thing that will also help start the engine, is working glow plugs or an intake thermostart/electrothermic plug as was mentioned previously but if the ambient temp is above 70 degrees really shouldn't need it, then again on a first re-start in years why not take advantage of every thing that can help start the engine...

If the injection timing is off, I believe Bob or Rich has a good procedure (Spill cut off point timing)

ok went out and went thru fuel syst again. made sure fuel was to filter and then cracked each line and had spirts comming out of feed line, cranked and nothing, then i put my hand over the air intake and cranked until the hose collapsed and the tractor started to turn over real fast, took my hand off and it wanted to start but just wouldnt, I didnt want to kill my starter so i just left it and came in the hhouse for a ice tea, its about 92 here in fla and in my barn its prob 110 so i fig id let the starter cool and send this out to see if anyone has any ideas, it was kind of like i choked the motor, but ive never herd of choking a diesel, could it be my injectors are bad

It sounds to me as though your injectors are probably okay but the timing may be off. When you choked off the air, the fuel kept being injected but not expelled out the exhaust valves (due to no air flow) so there was then "left-over" fuel in the cylinder on the next compression cycle and it tried to fire, but couldn't with no air. I think you need to:

1 - Do a compression test on each cylinder.

2 - look up "spill timing" and get your injector pump timed properly.

went back out and drained the ip pump and some nasty smelling brownish stuff came out almost like water but had a dieselish fuel smell and rotten smell to it flushed it out and refilled with 15-40 and while i was watching the funk drain it dawned on me the cable going to the shut off gate was way too long for what was needed, im wondering if the po switched the ip and that could be part or all of my problem I retryed starting it and it would labor the start to want to start as long as i had the starter engagedthen when i would let go of the key it would stall and then poof out the ext it did that about half the time and i tryed to start it about 6 times

well im not a happy camper, I just got done doing a comp test and almost no change cyl 1 155 was 160 before gasket change out cyl 2 455 was 422 i think before and cyl 3 200 and was 200 first time, i guess the rings are shot, does anyone have any other thoughts on what it could be thanks guys

That's a bummer, sorry to hear that. But on the bright side, the head is done now so it's time to dive into the basement.
A leak down test would have revealed what you now know as fact. Do you have to split the tractor?
If you're lucky and it's not a cracked/broken piston or ring land, then it's just most likely broken rings (based on previous findings).
