hey bob after i posted that i ate a sandwitch and then went back out and drained all the fluids pulled the head again and the pan and took out piston one and no3 the center piston had good comp so i didnt mess with it, when i pulled out piston 1 i gave it a quick look and saw a ring no3 from the top fully compressed and stuck, the oil ring no 4 was in 2 pcs and ring 2 from the top was stuck on one side but hay ring no 1 was good hahah, so on to piston 3 pulled it out and all the rings looked good at first but there was a pc of the piston land between ring 1 and 2 fell out and then i pulled a bit on ring 1 and it broke and so did all the others and 2 more piston pcs came out between ring 3 and 4, so i went back to piston one and washed it off in some diesel and sure enough it had 2 cracks in it between ring 3 and 4, i started playing with the rings and ring one came off ok but none of the others did they all fell apart likepot metal, and a few pcs of the piston came off between the rings also so at the least im gonna need 2 pistons and 2 sets of rings, the pistons looked good no diecolor or wear on the skirts, the bottom jurnal berr on piston one had some slight marks on it but the top was good and one side of the crank had a little discolor but it was smooth so ill prob get another set of main berr for that piston also, well all the mystery is over, I was very lucky that i could get to the pistons from the bottom

Sorry to hear the compression didn't improve. But at least you now know what the problem is with the rings and pistons. Personally, I would definitely NOT try to re-use any of them. Replace all three pistons and ring sets, quick hone through the bores, check the liner seals (if any), and replace any bearings that are at all suspicious (they're cheap, and easy to do now). Since the head is already done, you'd then pretty much have a fully rebuilt engine.

who has the best deal on pistons and rings and do they give a deal if you get all three pistons and ring sets

I dunno about the best deal, but I usually get my parts from Affordable Tractor because they give a lot of free advice on the forums and deserve the business. The same can be said for Keno Tractors and Circle G Tractors - pick the one who has what you need and is most convenient to you - you won't be sorry with any of them.

yea i kinda knew what was wrong from the git go with all the blow by out of the crank case but i just didnt want to belive it as being so, but now after the fix i guess i will have a new motor more or less in the tractor, seeing that it only has 69hrs on it and if all the other parts are working i guess they passed the break in stress test, and hopefully nothing will let go, but even so this little tractor is pretty easy to work on

I'm curious, Who actually assembled the tractor in the first place? Dealer or customer. On a self build, is the engine a fully built component?

My dealer built 254 has never had any problem in 4 years that wasn't due entirely to my inexperience/stupidity.

I have heard of a build-it-yourself Jimna where the customer decided to take a look inside the assembled gearbox, and found that under all the cogs was a load of casting sand that hadn't been cleaned out!

In a crate tractor, the engine is completely assembled other than mounting of a few minor items.

Some dealers do the final assembly and set-up just right, and some don't. The sponsoring dealers here like Affordable, RanchHand, Keno, etc, all do an excellent and thorough job of assembling and prepping what they sell.

I bought a crate tractor and assembled it myself, since that's the only way I could afford one. With guidance from Tommy at Affordable and Ronald at RanchHand, I managed to do credible job. I did end up having a problem with the bellhousing to engine block joint that required me to split the tractor, but that was a [problem from the Jinma factory. Nobody is perfect.

As for casting sand, that is common to find in a piece of new equipment. That's why I always drain the initial lubricants out after one or two hours use and replace them. Cheap insurance. Virtually every manufacturer leaves some residue in castings and, the bigger and more complex the item, the more you're likely to find.
