Double dumb Colorado door lock stunt.

The local salesmen at my dealership agree with your #3 post here that if he didn't get the remote function the right door should have a keyed lock on the outside. If the dealership won't check into this with GM for him then perhaps a call to GM rep for that area would help get an answer. I questioned why I had no keyed lock on the passenger door of my truck and was told the same thing. If you have remote entry then you only get a lock on the drivers door, No remote entry then it should have locks on both driver and passenger doors. Since he got neither GM should make good.

My wife had bought a brand new two tone Chevy S-10 in 1989. That truck would not hold paint. It would just flake off, but the metal underneath wouldn't rust unless it was scraped. Anyway we set up an appointment with the dealer where she brought that truck but before taking it there I stopped by the local car wash to clean it up. The manager said they would repaint the truck except for the drivers side because it had all ready been painted once. After telling him she bought the truck brand new (30 miles or so on it of which she put most of those when she test drove it) and it had never been painted, he still said no. Went home and called corporate GM and within a few minutes of hanging up the phone, the manager of the dealership called back and said they would repaint the entire truck.
My point is once you make an attempt to go through the dealer and make things right, sometimes you need to step up the ladder to make something happen.

Most folks on this forum can easily do enough research to be vastly superior in product knowledge than the typical car salesman. Salesmen can be downright dumb and uninformed, not to be trusted.

If GM tells you that the door is supposed to be unlockable then you indeed have a defective unit. Until then, you have a defective salesman.
So who's the defective salesmen the 2 we talked to or the ones where my brother bought the truck that are telling him just the opposite of what we were told.

LB,

Obviously you didn't read my link. Prior to Aug. the trucks only had one door lock and GM was changing after Aug. (obviously for the 2007 Model year). What the article didn't say is how they are handling already existing trucks. So no, the truck wasn't "defective," but GM is changing the design - or I should say build plans.

I just checked with one of my contacts at GM and it appears that the production of the passenger side door lock went into production the week of August 20th. That would probably mean that the are 2007 with and WITHOUT the passenger side door lock.

Do not expect GM to upgrade the trucks without the passenger side door lock. If you read the fine print on all sales information it will stated that content can be changed. The following is from an 06 sales brochure: "We reserve the right, however, to make changes at any time without notice, in prices, colors, materials, equipment, specifications, models and availability."

It was also mentioned that: service is working on some sort of dealer notification of the availability of parts for a retrofit. There was no known plans for a retrofit kit through parts, but rather using '07 production part numbers.

If I get any other information I will let you know.

All salesmen by default are defective as demonstrated by your experiences. You are responsible for knowing what you are buying and blaming some salesman robot for verbal promises is not going to get you anywhere.

Someone on TBN had a quote, "You get what you inspect, not what you expect". I hate to be a harda$$ but at what point does your brother take responsibility for buying something overtly different than what he expected?

You should count your lucky stars that a retrofit kit will be available and not be shocked when the dealer asks you to pay for the kit plus labor to install. I would certainly ask the dealer to eat the cost if you feel good about blaming this on the salesman, it might come out of his paycheck.

I am sympathetic to his plight but as things sit right now he has a truck that is detrimental to his health the way it is. As one poster mentioned you can do aftermarket electronic door locks for under 200.00 ( the one for my 1998 tracker was 100.00 for parts and it had the added bonus of having a burglar alarm) There might be an issue of him feeling like GM should fix it free but to me there is a bigger issue of health. In a nutshell is his health worth 200.00 ?
I would also call the GM area rep and explain the situation see if they might add the remote door locks on at cost just for customer satisfaction. But the bottom issue is still your brothers health and how much is that worth.

GM has also eliminated external trunk key locks on its sedans. So if you buy a base model sedan without a folding back seat and your battery goes dead, you can't get into your trunk to get your jumper cables out.

Enough pressure from your brother to the factory rep and the dealership and a letter to GM just might make it possible to get a key lock installed either free or at cost.

Good luck on a frustrating problem.

I forgot to mention in my other post that GM has a "mobility" program that assist in the purchase of unique automotive transportion needs.

They might be able to assist your brother in getting what he needs. You can check out the website at GM Mobility
