1*So is the drivers door the only door you can get into the Veh.with when the Veh is locked up? No, because it has keyless entry. Push the remote button twice and all doors unlock - this can be changed so that all doors unlock with one push.
2*This means you have to use 2 keys to start it with then correct? 1 to unlock the door and another 1 to start the engine. If you count the remote as a key, yes, but otherwise the same key unlocks the door and starts the engine. I don't understand why 2 keys is a big deal. GM had used separate door and ignition keys for years. I know as recently as '96 as my Mom's Beretta has 2 keys. My sister's '95 Sunfire had 1 key and so did my '97 K1500.

3* & 4* But you can unlock both doors from the outside right?
Yes, but like I said we usually use the remote.

If he doesn't like not being able to unlock the door, any decent car accessory shop can add keyless entry to vehicle - even one that doesn't have power locks for around $100 - 130. Heck go up a few $ and it'll even start by remote.:D I miss that feature as I had it on my '97 K1500.

I'm just curious that maybe it does have the keyless entry and they just didn't give him the key fobs. My cousin works for a Ford dealership and they didn't set the key fobs until someone bought the car. They also forgot to give me mine for my Focus. Then the salesman came out and programed to key fobs and I was on my way. They don't add keyless entry until you get to the crew crab. See the link: 2006 Chevrolet Colorado Prices and Equipment It could have been added as extra to though, but you'd have to check the window sticker.

Lady I work with has a new Nissan Murano --the "key" stays in her bag. She walks up to the car and the doors unlock - and the ignition has no place to insert any kind of key at all. She walks away from the car and the doors lock. As long as she has that remote within a certain number of feet of the car - it's totally keyless.

Here in his own words is why the passenger door that can't be unlocked from outside the Vehicle is such a BIG ISSUE to My Brother.

I have run into a problem with the Colorado. This is more of a handicap accessibility issue than anything else.

I didn't know that the passenger side door did not have a key lock.

This was my normal routine (my old truck S10)--I would take the tanks out to my truck, unlock the passenger side door, lay the tanks on the floor, close the door, go around to the driver side door, unlock it, get in, and drive away.

Here is the new routine (my new truck Colorado)--Take the tanks out to my truck, lay the tanks in the truck bed, go around to the driver side door, unlock it, get in, slide over toward the passenger side, unlock passenger side door, slide back out of driver side, go around to passenger side, open the door, take tanks out of truck bed and lay them on the floor, close the door, go around to driver side again, get in, and drive away.

Every movement, like bending, lifting, reaching will tax my breathing and I have to stop and rest a couple of minutes, Between each movement to catch my breath. In the scenario above I walk around the truck three times. I also have to slide across the seat enough that I can reach the door to unlock it and slide back out of the truck. And I have to get in the truck twice. With a key lock door I only walk around the truck once and that is to get in the truck once.
I never heard of a door with no way to open it from the outside if it was locked.
******************
As you must surely realize from my brothers comments above the un lockable door causes him undue physical stress and discomfort.

It may not bother the able-bodied but the door lock thing is a big deal for those like my bother and others who are handicapped or disabled.

I can sympathise with his predicament. Are you able to help him out and check to see if it has the keyless entry already installed? He may not have recieved the remotes, as already has been suggested. If not, can you investigate how much it will cost to have them installed? Maybe the dealer will flex a bit, seeing as how much it means to your brother. Discuss his mobility issues with the dealer and explain that he didn't realize it wouldn't have a passenger side lock. I can't see any downside to asking the dealer for help.

My problem with this is if it was such a hardship for your brother to have a keyed door then why didn't he think of it before signing on the dotted line. When I buy a vehicle I make sure it fits all my needs. This was an oversight and I highly doubt he has any kind of legal right to go after the dealer.

Cars are getting cheaper and dumber every day. My 90 Eagle Talon will unlock both doors with the turn of the key in the drivers door. The 03 Ram has the remote keyless entry, so I am just too used to that. My finance's battery in her remote died and she asked me how to get into the car. :D

Steve, when I bought my '01 Ford Ranger (used) they only had one remote. So I bought another one at a Ford dealer. I intended to program it myself, but hadn't read all the instructions. Anyway, the young man on the parts counter said he'd program it, went to the truck, and did it. I gave the original remote to my wife. A short time later, she told me her remote didn't work. I put a new battery in it; still didn't work. Then I read all the instructions in the owners manual. When you program one, you must have all the remotes and program them all at the same time. Otherwise, ones that used to work no longer work. Then when I bought the keypad to go on the door, I told them what number combination I wanted programmed into it. They did that; yep, the little remotes no longer worked.:D So I had to re-program all three.

The difference between that and my brothers situation with the truck is her doors are unlockable from out side of the Veh but the Passenger door of his truck is not unlockable from the outside. You Can't unlock that blasted door from outside with a key, elect door locks a remote or anything else.

If he has to slide over to unlock the passenger door then he must not have power door locks. If that's the case, then he's not going to have remote keyless entry. It's crazy that the truck didn't come with a passenger door keyed lock outside though.
