I have a 1200' gravel driveway and a DR powergrader has worked wonders for me.
I find because Im towing it and its not physically attached to the tractors 3-point hitch it can float on the gravel better and do its thing without being affected by the tractors bouncing. I did away with the battery that comes with the DR grader and just connect it to my tractor battery when in use. The controller allows you to raise it up/down with ease for when you're traveling to/from or turning around etc.
I tried a landscape rake too, never had much luck. The DR grader works wonders for me.
I have an uphill section in my driveway too and I can grade going up or down no problem. Dependng how much material its digging up/pulling I may use Low gear going up, but otherwise it grades equally well in either direction.
