I agree with Currmudgeon.

Open channel flow in one large diameter pipe is going to have less flow resistance that many smaller pipes.

Think of it as the 'pizza principle'.. we did that in college. Two 8' personal pizza's do not equal a 16" pizza...

For those that like the math.. look at a 12" pizza surface area compaired to a 16" pizza.. pretty surprizing how much more sq" of food you are getting for that low price.

That reminds me of when we were looking at swimming pools. I didn't figure it up, but I assumed they were right (or at least close /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif) that a 24'x4' above ground pool was 12,000 gallons but the 27'x4' was something like 17,500. Almost 50% with only 3 more feet - at least according to them. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

BTW 17,500 is what I always based the chemicals on and have never had a problem.
