Drill Press

   / Drill Press #21
Bgott I buy all of my machine shop tools from sales or 2 different friends that buy and sell surplus. about 2 years ago the trailer plant I worked for closed and I bought some 3 phase welders from them. THey all worked and for under 175 dollars for all three. Sold 2 of them for purchase prce of all three. I bought a 24 by 8 lathewith the steady rest, tool bits, centers and a few holders for 800 dollars it came from a truck shop whos machinist had quit years ago., I bought a used pattern torch from a freind the the sale barn for 400. I bought2 table mounted Delta Rockwell drill presses one with a spindle warped for 100 dollars. Its heavy Im having trouble getting the speed I want to run it at right now. It was set up to drill plastics and aluminum. last week I went to an auction of a metal chair factory in the same town I worked in and the ad hadnt gotten into the paper. I boughta running Covel surface grinder all manual table good macgnetic chuck for 147 dollars. I missed a drill press that sold its a 2 headed giant with a spindle gone on it but has all the internal parts there along with a good head. I can buy it from myfriend for 100 dollars or 8 cents a pound. Im wanting one of the radial arm drills that a another friend has hes asking 1200 for them and has 4. They are 7 HP and weigh in at 27 000 ponds each. Ill set it on a pad outside the shop and build a shed around it if I get it. This is my hobby and weekend work shop.lol That Buffalo is well worth what you gave for it, I gave 150 for CHinese floor press in 1997 crappyhandles flexing table the table had a tilt in it witch vibrated and lets you drill holes unintentionally on an angle. It also has the 3 pulley sytem on it for the 13 speed the middle pulley is constantly bending the mounts and it slips. Its been a good one for the money and beat what I had at the time but It would never last as long as yours. I have my grandfathers old Logan 10 by 24 lathe he got when he moved back to Conneticut after WW2. he used to for many years makingthings in his shop both wood and metal. Im restoring it now it has survived his shop burning after which he rebuilt it and several other things. I emailed Logan actuator company and theytold me what was still available and sent me a catalouge They asked for a serial number when I told them they told me wit was made on February 3rd 1942. I have most of the standard tooling with it and a tool post grinder. I may take it to Laurel MS and get an oldtimer down there Im friends with to hand scrape th ways to get a new finish on it.
